题目:ARGUMENT45 - The following appeared as an editorial in a wildlife journal.

"Arctic deer live on islands in Canada's arctic region. They search for food by moving over ice from island to island during the course of a year. Their habitat is limited to areas warm enough to sustain the plants on which they feed, and cold enough, at least some of the year, for the ice to cover the sea separating the islands, allowing the deer to travel over it. Unfortunately, according to reports from local hunters, the deer populations are declining. Since these reports coincide with recent global warming trends that have caused the sea ice to melt, we can conclude that the decline in arctic deer populations is the result of deer being unable to follow their age-old migration patterns across the frozen sea."

The arguer concludes that the breaking of migration patterns by the global warming trends results in the decreasing of dears merely on a vague report from hunters. This argument suffers several flaws as followings:

Fist of all, from the fact that the report of deer decreasing coincide with trend of global warming, The arguer draws that global warming results in decreasing of deer which is not necessarily the case. The arguer doesn't provide strong evidence to show the same trend of warming in the area where deer lives. Since this area lies in Canada's arctic region, it is highly possible that it seldom suffers effects of global warming trend. Even if some, is the temperature high enough to melt all the ices paths? Does this time of melting exactly coincide with the time of dears' migration since they only migrate several times a year?  Before these problems answered, we cannot be convinced by this conclusion.

The arguer cited a report of dears' population from hunters which is uncertain. Maybe dears are one of the most profitable goals for hunters while they are under the protection of government, thus hunters might think it foolish to report the real number of dears. And we are informed certain measures were taken to ensure the validity of report from hunters. There's also another possibility that it is harder for hunters to track dears than before so that they also have little information about dears whose real number may be out of their imagination. Befroe wiping these doubts, this report is worthless to convince us that the population of deer is decreasing.

Granted the dears are increasing indeed, the arguer fails to take other reasons into accounts. If these deer carry enormous commercial benefits as we assume above, hunters are likely to contribute to the decreasing of dears although they would never confess it in the report. Other alternatives may include the increasing of natural enemies and the decreasing of food. It is a hasty to attribute the decrease of dears only to the breaking of migration patterns.

To make the argument more acceptable, the arguer should first make further investigation on the exact number of dears, climate situation in this area, and every reason which might endangers dears.
发烧作业超时20分钟,呵呵,又给自己找借口了,顶多是低烧。找了一些比较难的a题来开开刀。
