TOPIC: ISSUE212 - "If a goal is worthy, then any means taken to attain it is justifiable."
WORDS: 563 TIME: 00:45:00 DATE: 2007-8-21 21:09:07
When we ask whether it is justifiable to take any means to attain a worthy goal, people may find it difficult to come to consensus due to their different backgrounds and diverseconflicting values. As far as I am concerned, I am not willing to draw a presumpcious这个单词怎么写?是武断的意思 conclusion that whether it is reasonable or not, because it depends on different methods to attain it.
Once the worthy goal is standing in front of you, it is justifiable for you to give assiduous hard-working to make it come true. The road of ascending the mountain of aim is arduous. Only self-confidence is surely not enough and the willing to devote into it is the prerequisite element. The distinguishing "Soccer King" Maradora, seen as the angle from the god, enchanted thousands of fans both within Argentina and other countries all around the world. He had a dream in his youth that being the star to win the world cup for his mother country Argentina. His family was in poverty and even cannot afford to buy him a pair of endearing soccer shoes. Although he is short, only 172 centimeters high, he overcame it after years of assiduous practice. Under his hard will, with his long practicing practice, he leaded Argentina National Soccer Team winning the 1986 world cup which was held in Italy and enculveengrave his name and the honor of Argentina into the international soccer history. Maradora was the "King" of Argentina and make his and his country's dream come true under his years of hard practice and with his sweeat and tear. Ways existed to achieve the goal, but unstopageincessant work for it is a reasonable mean.
The greedy of the original character of human being decide that some one took bad methods in the aim of achieving a worthy goal. The professor of Soul University, Huang Yuxi, post his article in the world famous magazine Science in order to show his research result about an amazing "discovery" in the gene clone technique. However, after months from his article disclose to the world, bunch of flaws was discovered in his article and lots of suspicion on his theory was risedraised. Under the verification work of some researchers, his experiment result was found to be a false one and this scandal shocked the biochemistry world. Under the driving power of fame and greed, the former famous professor was fired by Soul University and was去掉 send to court under the crime of cheating and fake article. Admittedly, the goal of the professor is somewhat good and beneficial to our society. There is only one correct way to achieve it -- real experiment and assiduous working. It is a pity that he chose the wrong one.
The modern world is fascinating and luring. Series of ways are in front of us to achieve a worthy goal -- some of them are correct, but, on the other hand, others are evil. It is necessary to choose a correct way to make our dream come true other than bad ways. It is a practical method to testify our discerning ability.
In summary, I advocate to choose right ways to attain the worthy goal, while people might find hard to arrive at the same conclusion on this controversial issuewhile it is likely that people will never be able to arrive at the same conclusion on this controversial issue. However, taking into account all the conclusionsdimensions discussed in the above analysis might be a decisive waystep out of this dilemma.
TOPIC: ARGUMENT167 - A folk remedy* for insomnia, the scent in lavender flowers, has now been proved effective. In a recent study, 30 volunteers with chronic insomnia slept each night for three weeks on lavender-scented pillows in a controlled room where their sleep was monitored. During the first week, volunteers continued to take their usual sleeping medication. They slept soundly but wakened feeling tired. During the second week, the volunteers discontinued their medication. As a result, they slept less soundly than the previous week and felt even more tired. During the third week, the volunteers slept longer and more soundly than in the previous two weeks. This shows that over a short period of time lavender cures insomnia.
*A folk remedy is usually a plant-based form of treatment common to traditional forms of medicine, ones that developed before the advent of modern medical services and technology.

In this analysis, the arguer attempts to convince us that the lavender flower is effective in the therapy of insomnia. To substantiate this conclusion, the arguer narrate an experiment that volunteers slept longer at the end of a three weeks therapy to support his state. While this argument has some merits, several conspicuous flaws may seriously undermine the line of reasoning.
In the first place, the author makes a hasty generalization fault in this experiment that the count and health condition of volunteers are out of our grasp. Perhaps 30 volunteers are far from enough in the testimonytestification of a therapy. Perhaps the health condition of volunteers might be not seriously enough that common remedies can cure their insomnia. The lack of these key elements of volunteer makes the result of the experiment trustless and unconvincing.
Even assuming that the volunteers are enough and in bad health condition, several suspicious points in the course of this experiment make the result untrustableunwarranted. There is no evidence to illustrate that the more tired feeling in the second week are in the reason of the discontinued common medication. More importantly, the seemly nice sleep may not in the reason of lavender. Only several days of lavender flower scent may not seriously affect the patient and cure the insomnia and, moreover, it may reflect the effect of common therapy because after a period of medication, the medical effect may affective and cure the insomnia pain.
Even admitted that the experiment is somewhat convincing, the author makes a oversimplifiedoversimple conclusion. What are the bad effects of the remedy? Are there any evidences that there are few noxious elements in the scent in lavender flowers? As a formal therapy, the side effects and noticeable aspects must be presented. If the author does not state any bad effects of the therapy and methods to avoid it, arbitrarily applying it to patients is somewhat irresponsible or, even, illegal.
In summary, this argument is not persuasive as it stands. To make it logically acceptable, the author has to state the health condition of the volunteers and course of the experiment clearly. Before the statement of the conclusion, the author must show some testifications that there are no bad effects in this therapy.
