issu99:"In any realm of life—whether academic, social, business, or political—the only way to succeed is to take a practical, rather than an idealistic, point of view. Pragmatic behavior guarantees survival, whereas idealistic views tend to be superceded by simpler, more immediate options."
Eg:Thomas Alva Edison
Eg: Martin Luther King
Eg: Deng Xiaoping
Is it true that the only way ,to succeed in any realm of life—whether academic, social, business, or political— is to take a practical, rather than an idealistic, point of view? Maybe is correct in some bagatelles such as when you are learning to swim or ride bicycle. In my point of view, idealism, if it is not more important, is as essential as pragmatic behavior for success and progress .To integrate them is a shortcut to success.
Pragmatic behaviors, of which the essential elements are practice, experiment and experience, is the key factor leading to success especially correct in science research. Maybe you have a lot of wonderful ideas, on by industrious and pragmatic work, during which the scientist may suffer countless failure, can the thought become true. We can learn from the experience of Thomas Alva Edison, a famous inventor, that sometimes a series of apparent hard work even failures is really a precursor to success. The voluminous personal papers of Edison reveal that his inventions typically did not spring to life in a flash idealistic view but evolved slowly from previous pragmatic experiments.
Idealism, however, is also important for gaining the success and the development of society. Idealism represents a faith or a hope, which though sometimes finally be failed, can inspire people’ potential and guide people to the right direction to find truth and achieve goals. Martin Luther King is noted as an idealist because of his struggle for racial justice. King’s challenges to segregation and racial discrimination in the 1950s and 1960s helped convince many white Americans to support the cause of civil rights in the United States.
We should combine the idealism and pragmatic behavior together, which are both the very essential for gaining the progress or success, and obviously we can. Deng Xiaoping was an astonishingly ambitious and effective reformer in both the economic and political domains. He not only have a good idealism but also established his theory on the foundation of Marxism and committed the party to “building socialism with Chinese characteristics”, avoiding the mistake that blindly and fanatically embracing Marxism and revamped(修补) Chinese policy on several fronts. After some delicate first steps, the government in the early 1980s revived private trade and services in urban areas. Whereas Mao had pursued a policy of national self-sufficiency, Deng endorsed an “open door” policy to start integrating the country into the international economy. Foreign trade boomed, China petitioned for entry into international financial institutions, and it carved out “special economic zones” along its southern coast to offer incentives to foreign investors. China’s exposure to the world economy deepened further in 1997 with the return to Chinese sovereignty of Hong Kong, a vital international trading center.
To sum up, in this complicated modern scientific society, we should try to promote wonderful idealisms with tepidity, then we should pay hard pragmatic works to verify the conceive with carefulness. When we find a prefect balance between them, we have more possibility to be near success.
