Scandals—whether in politics, academia, or other areas—can be useful. They focus our attention on problems in ways that no speaker or reformer ever could.

Which of the two, both scandals and speakers or reformers, would be more effective to catch the eyesight of the public?  Born with a characteristic of curiosity, man is always ready to discover new things by his side.  Since it is well accepted that positive learning would ever generate better results, scandals could be one brilliant promoter for problems to arrest the public.

It is always the truth that the public would rather search for news that interested them most by themselves, than listening to a speaker announcing stuffy political viewpoints.  Mostly, the scandals would play a role as a superintendent. The public are always curious about how their leaders perform, or rather choose to take the leader's viewpoint as a yardstick for their acts.  They query, and then a consensus would be made out into an announcement. Such as the scandals of Mark Foley, 2006, or the Tailhook scandal of American Navy, the public have given out an sounds of requiring for respect and equality, which effectively repress the government into an  introspection, and then an amendment of its old regulations.

The same as the activities in political area, scientific movements also call for a supervision, which sometimes would be acted out with scandals. Simply put the Hwang Woo-Suk's incidents as an example.  It used to be a broken news when the media firstly uncovered the fake experimental results of the clone of human embryonic stem cells.  Though most people had no idea about what an embryonic stem cell is, they all had the idea that the result published in the Science and Nature was a fake.  In this case, the scandals do have done a better job of catching the public's attention than a academic speaker would do.

Whereas, the scandals do have brought about some troubles, when it happened to be with the entertainment activities.  The famous movie stars are always in the trouble of over-explosive to the public, under which circumstances, whose personal secrets are infringed most frequently.  In other words, scandals do bring with a better surveillant regulation system, however, the short comes should not be neglected.

Thus, to better perform the functions of scandals could undoubtedly make us a better regulated society. The government should take its role as to activating its public into the supervising work, while for the public itself, take this activity spontaneously would not only satisfy his curiosity, but also lead to a better result of social problem intendance.
