The author asserts that the role of television could, to a large extent, replace the role of reading books. I partly agree that the power of television render us more informed of the current conditions in the world without stepping out of a room, providing us with a lot of knowledge that can’t be instructed in books. However, I fundamentally disagree that the role of books could be waned. Conversely, its role keeps higher than ever before.
To begin with, television is means of media. Admittedly, its flamboyant trait of instantaneity could inform us of the current conditions, such as political affairs, sports games, new blockbusters in a realm of film and so forth. For that matter, people worldwide could keep abreast with the world’s motion and then make a right choice, especially facing some changes related to our daily life. For example, via TV, the civilians could gain the recent climate change from weather forecaster, and then they could determine the itinerary in trip or preclude the damage it could exert on us. In addition, it appears as another role of entertaining ambassador in our life instilling a great many wonderful sports games and pop stars’ solo concerts. Without stepping out of a room, it is entirely possible to gain the most attractive events happened around the world and without any costs excepet some electricity, TV allows us a great amount of chances to stimulate our aesthetic appreciation.
However, as for learning knowledge, at first, one should not neglect the TV’s also active role in it. TV do provide a series of recorded films and newsreels, which does a great job in people’s abundance of knowledge. Whereas, as for systematic and authoritative lore, the TV seems to carry less substantial jobs in it. It is due to the TV’s main role, just for entertainment and world’s news. The knowledge learning is just a byproduct along with the purpose to improve the audience ratings ,for TV programs mainly serve to the TV station’s earnings. Even assuming that the TV bestow people with knowledge, they may not focus on it. For example, chances are high that they consult books and seek articles on Internet when considering a question. And given that the knowledge is intructed limitedly via TV due to its time and purpose impediments, they are inclined to resort to reading a book rather than reviewing a TV program.
The book, due to its hallmarks, no limited time and space, less profitable purpose, gives us more systematic, multifactor and authoritative knowledge. To illustrate a point or a phenomenon clearly and profundly, the author have adquate space and time to seek for more evidence and conduct more polls and demographic researchs. Thus, for example, if one wants to know the details of Civil War, to begin with, the related books are full of shelves. In this manner, not only could people gain a systematic and standardized information in one book, but also they are able to indulge in diverse comments among historians, and authors from other realms. In this way, the folks could comprehend this affair more profoundly and intrinsically. Conversely, the TV programs just express via terse comments and simple pictures, which are not sufficient for a advanced studying and to meet all audiences’ needs.
In addition, as for multitude attitude, people often treat TV as a means of entertainment. After all, the programs for recreational events are more than those in the level of education, which reflects the main purpose for profitability rather than the universe studying. Because traditionally, the basic attitude of people towards TV programs are not heightened to education. In this sense, people ,when seeking knowledge and materials for articles, often resort to reading a book rather than seeking for TV programs though it does a number of jobs in educational development. Generally speaking, the TV programs at most serve as a impetus to study rather than a normal and formal means of studying.
On balance, both the TV programs and books play an remarkably essential role in people’s gaining knowledge and information. The only difference is the their emphasis on diverse purposes. The TV programs are mainly for audiences’ entertainment and knowing the world and books for systematic and deepened advanced studying. The TV programs offer impetus for learning while the book make it possible for advanced learning.
