TOPIC: ISSUE38 - "In the age of television, reading books is not as important as it once was. People can learn as much by watching television as they can by reading books."
WORDS: 646          TIME: 00:45:00          DATE: 2008-1-3 16:00:11

In this rapid developing world, new technologies are brought out everyday. Meanwhile, many traditional Medias seem to lose significance, especially compared with the newly developed methods. The relation between television and books is typical of what I just mention. Apart from books, people resort to television in seeking varieties of information. However, I take leave to doubt that, whether this trend tend to display that books no longer play as a vital role as before.
Naturally, there is no denying the fact that due to television, more information in considerable forms flood to us both vividly and sufficiently. The colorful pictures on which the television program rests, the sounding video to which it applies, and the motion recorded in life all add credibility to the issue and the information it handles with. With the help of television, a number of approaches to information are becoming accessible to us eager learners. Further, the television programs are renewed in a short time; in another word, we can attain the latest news all over the world in a convenient way wherever the television signal is available. On the other side, books, once wrote and published, can never accommodate to any changes unless people adopt another version.
With the limitation books possess, it, as well, demonstrates several advantages that can never be touched by television.
Firstly, considering the different degrees of popularity of these two Medias, there is no exaggerating saying that books can be reached by the major people in the major part in the world. Those who living in the suburban area in developing countries, struggling with starvation and poverty, can hardly afford a set of TV. The charge of TV program is out of their reach either. Why they bother to go out of their ways to gain information from television while they can resort to the cheap media-books at hand.  It may also be possible that in the world, there are still some areas going through without electricity. Under such a circumstance, the TV set proves to be a luxury without any doubts.
Further, why not forget the colorful pictures and tempting videos the television presents for just a little while, and concentrate on what is the essence of "learning". The term, from my personal angle, indicates the circumstance that a person involves with the surroundings actively to establish his or her own thoughts instead of accepting information passively. Admitting such a definition, we should consider the issue more carefully.
The fact that the interval of different information provided by books is much longer than that by television lends support to the claim that when reading books, we are left more time to think over information before accepting it. According to a survey conducted by Psychology School in my university, the same news containing doubtful information can be questioned by up to 90 percent of ordinary people, providing the information last about 30 seconds. If the time required drops to 15seconds, the proportion of people who can recognize the flaw declines dramatically to 20 percent. And it is usual the case that in television the information is available in less than 10 seconds. We can take it for granted that most television audience lose their critical thinking, which is a necessary part in establishing his knowledge structure. Therefore, lacking the very structure, never could we conclude that the learning process is completed and further infer that we can learn the same through the two Medias.
To sum up, taking all these factors into consideration, the phenomenon that watching TV can offer us substantial amount of information could hardly indicates books on which we rely lose its domination. Further, television and books are not incompatible. The emergence of television does not necessarily waken the significance of books. Being properly arranged, they may contribute to recording our beautiful life, transporting our ideas and, more importantly, promoting our learning.

In this rapid developing world, new technologies are brought out everyday. Meanwhile, many traditional Medias(这个词本身复数) seem to lose significance, especially compared with the newly developed methods. The relation between television and books is typical of what I just mention. Apart from books, people resort to television in seeking varieties(多样的直接是variety of of information. However, I take leave to doubt that, whether this trend tend to display that books no longer play as a vital role as before.

Naturally, there is no denying the fact that due to television, more information in considerable forms floods(主语是information) to us both vividly and sufficiently. The colorful pictures on which the television program rests( 建议查一下这个用法 感觉不保险), the soundingaudible sounding 有其他意思) video to which it applies, and the motion recorded in life all add credibility to the issue and the information it handles with.句型很好啊~ With the help of television, a number of approaches to information are becoming accessible to us -eager learners. 电视和书相比 都应该算“一”种媒体)Further, the television programs are renewed in a short time; in another word,前后似乎意思不一致 节目很快更新 那应该是讲时间的  后面却说空间上的便捷 we can attain the latest news all over the world in a convenient way wherever the television signal is available. On the other side, books, once wrote and published, can never accommodate to any changes unless people adopt another version.

With the limitation books possess, it, as well, demonstrates several advantages that can never be touched by television.

Firstly, considering the different degrees of popularity of these two Medias单数, there is no exaggerating (exaggeration) saying that books can be reached by the major people in the major part in(of 防止重复) the world.

Therefore, lacking the very structure, never could we conclude that the learning process is completed and further infer that we can learn the same through the two Medias单数.

To sum up, taking all these factors into consideration, the phenomenon that watching TV can offer us substantial amount of information (把substantial 放到information 的前面)could hardly indicates books on which we rely on lose its domination. Further, television and books are not incompatible. The emergence of television does not necessarily waken the significance of books. Being properly arranged, they may contribute to recording our beautiful life, transporting our ideas and, more importantly, promoting our learning.
