The author asserts that the perpetual value would be often burdened by the artist rather than the critic. Granted that the artists design a great many great arts by means of music, literature, paintings and even films, the value of the critic could not be ignored. Admittedly, a great number of artists reach further beyond the folks’ apprehension in their ages. However, the masterpieces he left to us doubtlessly remind us that his movements are the milestone in the musical history. And his style even becomes the watershed between two eras—the classicism and the romanticism. In addition, the multitude of painters also faced the same conditions. Van Gogh suffered from non-recognition of his art and the subsequent poverty and metal illnesses. Moreover, the paintings of Monet also confronted the ignorance in his age. But now their works even scramble up at as a high price as that they do not match according to their application in the current society.

How could we learn to appreciate the paintings and musics? How could we be willint to cost hundreds of thousands of money on them with a simple purpose to decorate our rooms?

It is critics who guide the folks to appreciate the arts and build a bridge between the common people and the great artists. If people want to see a good film, they could resort to the IMDB, an authoritative organization to give comments on films. Even different people has distinct minds to appreciate a film, but the organization just leads the spectators to appreciate a film in right ways rather than in extreme ways. Or, to some extent, some films are not easy to catch their theme and make spectators mess around in their minds. The critics in this organization prompt a right way for them to grasp the essence of such films. In addition, when attending a concert, the critics are needed to provide the listeners with the background of time and space which facilitate the understanding of a musical movement. For example, after audiences gain some basic information about characteristics belonging to diverse constellations, they could listen to the symphony of constellation more profoundly and grasp the essence of it more accurately and mellifluously.

When it comes to business, the critics also plays a crucial role in artistic works appreciation and identification. For example, in the process of auction, the bidder needs specialized dabs to analyse the actual value of the goods in the bidding block and how high they could bid. And if one desires to purchase an antique, he would consult a proficient and specialized person to identify not only the authenticity but also the value of such an antique.

In most times, the artists are critics themselves. They not only focus on their own works but also participate giving comments on some works in their realms. On the one hand, they gain self-improvement from others,thus create more effulgent productions and meanwhile they have an idea to make the mass media join in the artistic palace and their works could be understanded and appreciated by more people.

According to the aforementioned points, it is unwise to ignore the essential points of the critic. The objectivity the critic endue us with is always limited by the age and the realm. Some artists are ignored while some of them are appreciated ,considering where there is Van Gogh, there is Michelangelo and where there is Emily Bronte, there is Mark Twain. These ignorance and appreciation are made by the critic to a large extent. Moreover, a critic could not cover all sides to give comments on a certain opus in that there exists the divergence among critics. Some may focus on the original minds the artists once had to create their works while some are inclined to consider about the effect their works exerted on their ages. In this manner, the comments given by one critic are often ex parte. Accordingly, it is hard-pressed to integrate more comments from diverse critics and then we could learn to appreciate a opus more thoroughly.

In sum, the critic are born with the artist. In brief, the artist create the substance for the critic to give comments on. However, in return, the critic give the artist a way to be understanded by common people, which is often cherished but might not be reached by a large number of them. The lasting value belongs to the artists while the nugget digger is the critics. The artists bestow the critics with authoritative status and the divergence of the comments gived by the critics make the artists more significant.
