第一次作业，写了一个多小时才写出来，请大家猛拍砖啊！ 多谢！

TOPIC: ISSUE103 - "The study of history has value only to the extent that it is relevant to our daily lives."

History is a story about the past that is significant and true. Nobody will reject that the study of history is very important to our lives. But the speaker's sight is short-sighted. The study of history has much value beyond benefiting our daily lives.

In China, there is a spirit of “Taking history as a mirror and looking forward to the future.” We check our appearance everyday in the mirror. For current society and the whole humankind, history is a mirror. Studying human history can help us to understand the present and to avoid repeating mistakes. History studies enable us to confront the problems we now face. And we also can analyze those famous events that have brought serious losses to us, such as war. In last century, twice world wars killed millions of lives, even until now wound of war could not be cured. From that terrible memory, we already know that there are other better ways to solve the disputes peacefully. The war is not a good way to the conflicts.

The study of history can also help us to predict the future. That is what we said: “looking forward to the future”. We know our health is heavily influenced by our heredity and past behaviors. The society as a whole is the same. These past are all important determinants and clues to help people understand change and how the society they live in came to be. Neither individual nor the government, when starting a thing, we always lay a course according to the past experiment. Everyone knows that the 29th Olympic Games will be held in Beijing in 2008.The Olympic Games have a history of more than two thousand years. But in China, it is the first time. If the government, as what the speaker assets, only believes history has value to our daily lives, we will know nothing about how to hold the successful Olympic Games. All our Chinese want to hold one of the most successful Games in the Olympic history. Therefore, we need the former Olympic Games’ experiences and our facts to plan and prepare for the coming Games.

In addition, history offers a storehouse of information about how societies and people behave. Learning about great human achievements of the past is useful for creating inspiration. In the sciences, what is called “new” hypothesis and work is usually but an improvement on the work done by previous scholars and scientists. People study history use their training for broader professional purposes.

In sum, the speaker’s assertion is too narrow. To know the history relevant to our daily lives is not the only reason to study the past.  History knowledge is a precious treasure to our humankind. The study of history has much value to present and future society.

文章写得不错，结构也对了,呵呵，漏洞不是太多
但是还有可以改进的地方，比如例子太少了，呵呵
文章主旨只说了作者目光短浅，但是什么方面短浅要加以说明，大概可以归纳成没有看到精神方面的影响。
第一，              如作者写到，历史让个人明白社会变化和前人的经历：
比如：high-art 艺术家，知道了Van Gogh后就明白坚持艺术要孤独要艰辛
第二，              如作者写到，错过的不要再错：to avoid repeating those mistakes.
比如：二战世界混乱，经济depression, 人们苦难suffer，进步停滞impede development 知道和平的珍贵，stability and peace，treasure
第三，              宝贵遗产，至今适用：precious historical heritage
History also provides a terrain for moral contemplation.
比如：
      孙子兵法和孔子的话等
这样分一下我觉得比较理想点，谢谢分享哦
