"How children are socialized today determines the destiny of society. Unfortunately, we have not yet learned how to raise children who can help bring about a better society."


As children is usually linked with hope of human development, one naturally considers that socializing children determines the destiny of society and an anxiety about how to raise children to bring about a better society comes to being. However, one might neglect that children socialization is only one, thought might be vital one, of the various factors influencing the society advancing and could not be controlled completely by adults today.

First of all, children socialization indeed play a significant part of society advancement and somewhat determining the destiny of society. Just considering today’s children will be the dominant power in promoting our society in future, it is not difficult to evaluate the importance of cultivating children’s socialized ability and understand why emphasizing on education is so popular in nearly each of the country in the world. We can hardly imagine what our society would be like if children repulse cooperation, comity and communication, which might lead to serious individual or societal problems like suicide, crimes and other anti-social behavior.

Admittedly, children nowadays spend more time alone comparing with adults’ socializing childhood in the past. Looking into our daily life, we can easily find any entertainment tools and multimedia fulfilling our rest time, such as television, game machine, computer and etc, any of which could prevent children from social group by satisfying them with plenty and wonderful contents. Children need not go out to find leisure or learn life skills from others, because all they require can be obtained from these tools. In this case, school has become a significant place providing chances for children to communicate with each other. Unfortunately, the school time out of classes is not enough to exercise abilities to adapt easily, let constructing a better society alone, for the test time out of school is much more.

However, modern machines do not sever children’s connections with others. On contrary, they are communicating with each other by more contemporary ways like telephone and internet, while one must associates with others in terms of face-to-face talking or letters in past. When children seem like alone at home, we can not definitely conclude that they are separate from social groups, for the reason that they might be learning social skills from television programs or chatting with classmates on line. Actually, children in modern society are more of independence, stronger personality and adaptation. They spend less time while gaining more scientific knowledge and social skills from developed media and therefore could concentrate on studying more advanced skills basing on them. Also, they are using all these information to form their own personalities.

Finally, society developing involves various factors rather than children socialization as unique. While cooperating with others, virtue help people contribute more kindness and erudition build more integrated society. When a manager of a large project decides who will consist of main member from several stuffs with professional skills, he has to consider not only team working ability including cooperation and negotiation, but also other virtue like honest and persistence. At this matter, shortage of any necessary aspect might lead to a failure of the project.

In sum, society runs within its own orbit which is separate from human’s intention. What one can do is to adapt and correct it. And children have adjusted to it properly today. So, adults should not be anxious for children socialization like what their parents worry about when they are children.
