TOPIC: ARGUMENT2 - The following appeared in a letter sent by a committee of homeowners from the Deerhaven Acres to all homeowners in Deerhaven Acres.

"Seven years ago, homeowners in nearby Brookville community adopted a set of restrictions on how the community's yards should be landscaped and what colors the exteriors of homes should be painted. Since then, average property values have tripled in Brookville. In order to raise property values in Deerhaven Acres, we should adopt our own set of restrictions on landscaping and housepainting."

In this argument, the arguer suggests that we should adopt Deerhaven's own set of restrictions on landscaping and housepainting in order to increase property values in Deerhaven Acres. To support this suggestion, the arguer cites the example that nearby Brookville community has adopted a such method and its average values had tripled seven years ago. However, this argument suffers from several critical flaws.

In the first place, the arguer fails to rule out other possibilities that might help the increase of the average property values. In this argument, the arguer cites that the nearby Brookville community adopted a set of restrictions on how the community's yards should be landscaped and what colors the exteriors of homes should be painted seven years ago, yet the arguer fails to provide information concerning that how homeowners reacted to this measure, and whether the increase of the average property values was due to this kind of measure. It is entirely possible that other factors help the increase of the average property values. For example, the development of the local economy, or perhaps it is the result of the investment of all kinds of businesses which motivated the average property values, or perhaps it is the reason of inflation. Without ruling out these possibilities, it is unfairly for the arguer to claim that this set of restrictions caused the increase of the average property values.

In addition, the arguer commits a fallacy of false analogy. The arguer fails to provide information concerning the basic condition of the two areas- Deerhaven Acres and Brookville community. It is entirely possible that the experience happpening in the nearby Brookville community is not suitable to the Deerhaven Acres due to their different geographic areas, weather, people's inclinations for their houses and their different tastes of decorations. In addition, the arguer fails to provide whether or not people in Deerhaven Acres would like to adopt this kind of measure. Thus, I can not trust the recommendation the arguer offers until the arguer concretely provides and proves the experience in Brookville community seven years ago suitable to the Deerhaven Acres.

In sum, the arguer unfairly assumes that the experience in Brookville community is suitable to the Deerhaven Acres. To make it logically acceptable, the arguer has to prove that it is really and actually the result of the adoption of the set of restrictions that increase the average property values in Brookville community. More importantly, the arguer has to provide information that whether the Deerhaven Acres is suitable to adopt this set of restrictions in order to raise its average property values. I would suspend my suspicion until the arguer rules out the possibilities mentioned in the above analysis.

I would suspend my suspicion until the arguer rules out the possibilities mentioned in the above analysis.

感觉错误没有层层递进的论述,所以略显单薄~可以安排一下错误的顺序,让他们看起来有递进or深入的关系,这样逻辑性就会比较凸显――小结finish
