It is tempting to agree with the speaker that government should not fund scientific research whose results are too ambiguous to successes when taking the finite resource into consideration. However, it should not be expanded to the idea that any scientific research whose consequences are just unclear perhaps in the short run. So, the government should take circumspect attitude to decide whether one such scientific research should be invested or not.


I concede that this speaker is on the right philosophical side on this issue. After all, the nature resource is limited. There are still more important and urgent things which are hoped to fund in the short time(in short time 短期内). It is ranging from the delinquent crime, the raising of consciousness of HIV, to the natural calamities happening from which the people is suffering . Further, when considering some special scientific research such as cloning people whose consequence is too dark and is also of no use to human beings, government should take a reasonable distribution of the limited nature resource. Otherwise, our society will be bogged into a confusion ,even be on the way to self-destruction.


Yet, scientific research is based on the conception to unveil the mysterial veiling of unknown the world. It is also a process that we grope for truth gradually which satisfy not only our insatiable appetite for knowledge but also our craving to understand ourselves and around us. So it is logically incorrect of the speaker to presume that we can know the consequence in advance. More important, common sense tell us it is of value that scientific research explore the uncharted and unfound fields. There are no any known tools or principles which they can follow up. So scientists revealed the truth little by little. In instance, Madame Curie did not know what kind of radioactive matters she can get from one ton of residue of pitch offered by her government. After thousands of experiments and ceaseless and repeated failures, she refined two kinds of radioactive matters—Polunium and Radium. If her government were unwilling to invest her research, we had perhaps never know what radioactive element is , not alone that get benefit from these elements. So government should fund the valuable scientific without any hesitation even if their consequences are inexplicit now but good to human being and our descendents in the future.


Further, there are hardly any individual or a group of individual to have the ability to afford the huge cost when carrying out the significant scientific research which need more time, more manpower , and more money . Likewise, the government’s help will stimulate the scientists having more courage to conquer the difficulty during the research. Finally, help from government facilitate the generalization of the fruit of their research which is good to human beings.


In sum, government should have good plan to distribute our limited resource in order that we can obtain the maximum profit at the lowest cost so that we can make sure our long-termed development when we solve the urgent questions .
