argument241. The following appeared in a memo at the XYZ company.
"When XYZ lays off employees, it pays Delany Personnel Firm to offer those employees assistance in creating resumès and developing interviewing skills, if they so desire. Laid-off employees have benefited greatly from Delany's services: last year those who used Delany found jobs much more quickly than did those who did not. Recently, it has been proposed that we use the less-expensive Walsh Personnel Firm in place of Delany. This would be a mistake because eight years ago, when XYZ was using Walsh, only half of the workers we laid off at that time found jobs within a year. Moreover, Delany is clearly superior, as evidenced by its bigger staff and larger number of branch offices. After all, last year Delany's clients took an average of six months to find jobs, whereas Walsh's clients took nine."

In this memo, the author concluded that using the less-expensive Walsh Personnel Firm in place of Delany is a mistake lied on a series of reasons which showed Delany was better than Walsh. However, I find the reasons the author cited are lacking reliability.
Firstly, only half of the workers who have been laid off found their jobs when XYZ was using Walsh eight years ago does not mean that Walsh can’t help more workers find their jobs under a year nowadays. It is likely that Walsh has promoted its efficiency during the passed years by a series of measures, such as improved its resumes writing by training, enhanced the interview skill of all its own employees, provided more services and so on. Without any evidence that indicated Walsh can not satisfy XYZ, the author’s conclusion is hasty.
In the second place, the author is unfairly to assume that Delany is better as it has bigger staff and more blanches. Perhaps, there are a few workers really service for XYZ, even less than Walsh, as Delany may work for several companies like XYZ. And it is possible that most of the blanches of Delany provide service for other groups of people, for example, transacting applications for students who want to study abroad. If it is the situation, than Delany maybe couldn’t do its best to help the laid-off workers.
Last but not least, the average time that the clients took to find jobs last year is unnecessarily indicate that choosing Walsh is wrong. It is entirely possible that the jobs that Delany’s clients found is mostly easy jobs, such as dustman, waiter, while Walsh’s client’ are more challenged like secretary, manager, technician. Maybe Delany’s clients were not content with Delany’s services at all, while Walsh has satisfied all its clients.
To sum up, the author is lacking consideration to draw his conclusion. And to better assess this argument, I need to know the outstanding achievements of both Delany and Walsh, the kind that the laid-off worker want, and the inner manipulation of Delany.
