In this statement, the speaker claims that an effective leader must maintain the highest ethical and moral standards. I basically agree with the speaker. It is very important to an effective leader to maintain high ethical and moral standards. However, in my view, the most important thing to an effective lesder is his/her working ability not only to mainstain the high ethical and moral standards.

Firstly, an public official without high ethical and moral standards would failure finally and cannot to be a effective leader. The master of an public offical is to let his/her origanization healthy and effectively. Without high ethical and moral standards, in some vital situation, an public offical may do something wrong. Watergate-the most important political scandal in the history of America- is a good case in point. Nison lost people’s credit because of Watergate and became the first resignation president in American history and also the only one untill now. So, maintain high ethical and moral standards is very important to an effective leader.

Secondly, an offical who want to lead his/her organization effectively must maintain high ethical and moral standards. Take an example in the business realm, effective leaders are those who often treat their staffs, their customers and the whole society with high ethical and moral standards. They provide safe and effective production to customers, consider from the profit of their stuffs and at the same time contribute to the society. Their sense of duty is very strong not only to their enterprise but also to the society. The effective leaders should always with high ethical and moral standards, because their every decision would influence not only the enterprise but also the society.

Nevertheless, in my opinion, to be effective leaders, the most important thing is working ability, at the same time maintain high ethical and moral standards. Only with high ethical and moral standards but without certain working ability, public officials cannot deal with the problems they face and cannot manage an organization well thus could not be effective leaders. Furthermore, sometimes leaders may donnot need to maintain the highest ethical and moral standards especially in the political realm. An political leader’s works are often out of the range of ethical and moral. They have to fight against some unfair impinge in order to preserve their nations.

To sum up, to be an effective leader, a public official need maintain high ethical and moral standards. But only with high ethical and moral standards is not enough, working ability is more important to an effective lesder. And sometimes, an effective leader nend to do some thing out of the range of ethical and moral.
