Argument65.The following appeared in a memo from the president of a chain of cheese stores located throughout the United States.
"For many years all the stores in our chain have stocked a wide variety of both domestic and imported cheeses. Last year, however, the five best-selling cheeses at our newest store were all domestic cheddar cheeses from Wisconsin. Furthermore, a recent survey by Cheeses of the World magazine indicates an increasing preference for domestic cheeses among its subscribers. Since our company can reduce expenses by limiting inventory, the best way to improve profits in all of our stores is to discontinue stocking many of our varieties of imported cheese and concentrate primarily on domestic cheeses."



In this argument, the president claims that their company could improve profits by discontinuing stocking imported cheese and concentrating primarily on dimestic.To support this claim the president point out that their five best-selling cheeses at their newest store were all domestic cheeses from Wisconsin. And a recent survery indicates an increasing preference for domestic cheeses among its subscribers. However, I find the argument unpersuasive in many aspects.

To begin with, the fact that their five best-selling cheeses at their newest store were all domestic cheeses from Wisconsin last year lends o support to the argunent. Perhaps that only in their neweat store the domestic cheeses are best-selling. And in the most of their stores, the imported cheeses are best-selling. The fact happened in the newest store is not a sound evidence to draw a conclusion that they should discontinue stocking imported cheese

Secondly, the recent survey by Cheeses of the World magazine is too vague to be reliable. Lacking the informations about the number of the magazine’s subscribers surveyed and the number of responders, it is impossiable to access the validity of the results. And there are also no data about the jod, gender and the age of the subscribers It is possible that the subscribers surveyed are ones who like domestic cheeses. So, the validity of the survey id doubtfull.

Even if that people indeed enjoy domestic cheeses now, the present provides on evidence that they could improve profits only by discontinuing stocking imported cheese and concentrating primarily on dimestic. The present fails to take into account other factors that could influence profits, such as the taste and the quality of their cheeses, the managerial approach and so on.

To sum up, the argument is unconvincing as it stands. Without scientific investigation and enough data, the present cannot conclude that they should discontinuestocking imported cheese and concentrating primarily on dimestic. The hasty conclusion may result in a wrong decision to their company.

Without scientific investigation in……and enough data about……,

当然从前面几段看，每段都短，结尾扩充了会头重脚轻，我这么说是觉得很多地方都可以用，只是拿最后一句话打个比方。
