TOPIC: ISSUE11 - "All nations should help support the development of a global university designed to engage students in the process of solving the world's most persistent social problems."

In an era of globalization, the idea of development of a global university is really a good idea in solving the world's social problems. However, the relationship among the countries and the complexity of the social problem may prevent establishment of the global university and its running.

Admittedly, building of a global university provides a platform for expert form different countries to discuss the global social problems. Gathering the wisdom all over world, it is more likely for the experts to find a feasible method to solve the problem. Also such organization helps people see the global problems on a large scope, which help experts to handle such problem more easily.

However, for some social problems, while many counties all are suffering from them, the reasons for such social problems in different countries may varies due to the different situation of each country. Therefore, the solution of them may be different. It is hard to classify similar social problems for systematic research. Take racial conflicts for instance. In America, it is about the racial discrimination of white people toward black people. And such discrimination is mainly because the American history that once black people are slavers, who have no human rights and class difference between most white people and black people. But in Africa, the discrimination is mainly between different tribes in fighting for the territory, natural resource and domination of the country. So we can see that in dealing with these two problems, we must use different methods. While reconciling the class conflict is most proper one for American society, negotiation between two tribes seem more practical in Africa.

Also, sometime, students of different nationality may find difficulty in solving social problem of other countries, since the relationship between different countries is delicate and changing all the time. Suppose an American expert take part in the religions problem in Iran. Of course it will raise the complaints from the government of Iran, because Iran and American have conflicts on the event of Iran’s unclear facilities. Also, some counties would consider the helping of global organization as interfere of his domestic politics. If that is the case, then the usefulness of global universities would decrease dramatically.

In fact, such worry about interrupting country's interior politics is necessary. Since, any social problem have close relationship with the stability of the country and whether the gobal university's help contains another political purpose is uncertain. When we investigation many global organization, we would find out that, actually they are controlled by many developed countries. Take UN for example. When making a decision, it is often the discussion of developed countries for sake of protecting its own interests. And other countries, especially, undeveloped countries, only have the choice to either accept it or deny it. So, to some extent, it has already lost its fairness. It is likely the case of the global university.  If it is just the institution controlled by some developed countries, then its research would not be purely based on the objective fact and scientific analyzing, but including other political purpose, which jeopardizes its authority.

In sum, though the establishment of global university would promote solving global social problem, the classification of the social issues, the political relationship prevent its feasibility of development. It may be a little disappointing, but it is reasonable.
