     It is always said that youth is the mainstream of society-----does it mean that the most effective way of understand contemporary culture is to analyze the trends of its youth? The speaker claims so. It has considerable merit and I agree insofar as it is the fastest way to understand contemporary culture. At some point, in my view, other people and factors that contribute to contemporary culture should also be considered.
      For one thing, youth, most likely to come along fashion trend, characterize contemporary culture. They are passionate and vital, sharp and aggressive. Lacking a steadfast conviction in tradition, they easily accept, understand and develop new concepts when entering society. They judge things in their own special point of view and personal tastes rather than in a traditional, neutral and modest way. Analysis of youth trends is essential to understanding contemporary aggressive culture.
      Yet our society is not composed of youth alone and other people, especially those who contribute to contemporary culture, cannot be ignored. The more mature generations dominate fields of politics, economics, culture and even entertainment. By example and education, they affect and even lead younger generations. Take an adult of Bill Gates as a typical example. He and his company, the richest man and the biggest software company in the world, have made an inestimable effect on the social culture. Computer, the most representative product, not only has been changing the ways of communication, work, entailment and even thinking but also improved the method of production in factories. They also have their own interests and personal habits, which is different from the youth. They also constitute their own organization and groups, which could also reflect one respect of contemporary culture.
      Finally, perhaps the more important, not only human beings affect contemporary culture, but also a variety of other things and factors are contributive to contemporary culture. It is of inevitability that where there is a colorful and diversified world, there is a kind of culture. Everything existing in the world has meaning to the culture. The construction of the region reflects the culture from modern buildings and preservation of traditional constructions; the achievement of education reflects the culture from the vision and mission; the abundance of products reflects the culture from the markets and factories…… As a matter of fact, there is no defying to enumeration. On the other hand, the culture also affects lots of its audience. In school, students are informed information and knowledge concerning the culture; in society, people communication and live in the ways which are parts of culture. They interact with each other. Were either of them removed from the society, the world would go wrong.
      In sum, youth trend is, admittedly, the fastest way to understand contemporary culture; they represent the most fashionable trends. Nevertheless, other people who contribute to contemporary culture as well cannot be ignored. In the final analysis, the best way for well-understanding and effectively comprehending contemporary culture, in my view, is to analyze all the factors and objects that contribute to contemporary culture.
