In this statement, the speaker claims that scandals could let people’s attention focus on problems in ways that speaker or reformer never could.
Thus, they could be always useful in all areas. In my view, the speaker’s claim is improper. I will provide evidence to support my standpoint.

Admittedly, scandals play an important part in many areas. They could do something in their way that speaker and reformer cannot. People’s attentions are often greatly attracted by scandals. And then lead to attention and discussion about some questions. Take an example, a very famous company concealed the significant defects of their major product before apologized to public. Hundreds of accidents were caused by the error. Thus, the company suffered a great goods return, losing not only the market share but also the trust of the consumers. After this affair, issue about honesty becomes a hot spot. People discuss the importance of a leader maintaining high ethics and moral standards through this affair. So scandals could draw people’s attention in a way that no speaker or reformer could.

Nevertheless, scandals may bring some bad influence to our society. On the one hand, people’ attention may focus on scandals but ignore some more important thing. Scandals which are not so important may draw too much people’s attention, such as a moving star’s private life or who is whose real lover and so on. People may use too much time to care these kinds of things and without other time to notice some more important things. We can image that if people only care scandals but anymore care current important domestic and international affairs, our society may involve in chaos.

On the other hand, scandals may lead to some questions. Scandals about government may let people do not trust them. Like one of the important question in current society, corruption, many important leaders in many areas have involved in it. When people know there are many corrupt leaders in our society, government may lose the trust of people. And to some extent, this situation would influence the power of the government. Watergate-one of the most important political scandals in the history of America-is another good case in point. Nison lose American’s credit because of Watergate and became the first resignation president in American history and also the only one until now. Therefore, scandals also could bring some questions to our society.

To sum up, the statement is a bit unilateral. Scandals could not only focus our attention on some problems but also bring some questions to our society. We should regard and handle in a certain way.
