题目：ARGUMENT26 - The following appeared in a memo from the chairperson of the school board in the town of Saluda.

"For the past five years, Mr. Charles Schade has been the music director at Steel City High School, and during that time the school band from Steel City High has won three regional band competitions. In addition, the quality of the music rehearsal facilities and musical instruments at Steel City High has improved markedly over the past five years. Because of such successes at Steel City High, the Saluda school board should hire Mr. Schade to plan and direct the general music education programs for the entire Saluda school system."

Merely depended on a series of unfounded assumption and dubious evidence, the arguer draws a conclusion that Mr. Schade should be employed by the Saluda school board in order to plan and direct the general music education programs for the whole Saluda school system. To support this conclusion, the arguer points out that Steel City High has obtained three regional band champions during the Mr. Charles Schade has been their music director. In addition, the arguer also indicates that the quality of the music rehearsal facilities and musical instruments has improved obviously during the past five years. When firstly examine this argument, it seems logical. Nevertheless, I find the argument suffers several flaw as follows.

First of all, the arguer draws a false premise of the conclusion that there is no teacher for the general music education programs of the Saluda school. Or even if the school has a teacher for teaching these programs, the school is still not satisfaction with the effect of the teacher's education. The arguer does not indicate these evidences to prove this assumption. It is possible that the school do not need the kind of people such as Mr. Charles Schade at all. Maybe the other teachers of this school are more suitable for this work. Also another possibility is that the teacher who takes this work before, he might accomplish this task more perfect than Mr. Charles Schade. Therefore, this argument is unwarranted without ruling out such possibility.

Furthermore, the arguer insists on an assumption that Mr. Charles Schade is successful at Steel City High School, and cites the achievements of this school during the past five years. However, many suspicious aspects will be found out. In the first place, the music education's situation of this school may or may not be satisfactory before Mr. Charles Schade has been hired. If the situation is fine, it is possible that Mr. Charles Schade has only contributed lightly to the music programs. In the second place, perhaps the school band has achieved more victory before Mr. Charles Schade came to this school. Due to this possibility this is nowhere more ridiculous than attribute these successes to Mr. Charles Schade simply. Consequently, the evidence of this argument is not convincing.

Finally, the extremely improve of the quality of the music rehearsal equipments and musical instruments at Steel City High have no necessarily link to the Mr. Charles Schade. It is widely known that the equipments of a school will be renewed in general by the school rather than any one director. It is equally possible that the local government will proved some budget to all schools. And the purpose of these money is in order to enough the educative equipments. So the argument will not be creditable, unless the arguer rules out these possibilities.      

To sum up, this argument is not wholly persuasive as it stands. To make the argument more convincing the author would have to provide more specific evidence that the Saluda school have made an entire consideration about the ability of Mr. Charles Schad. In the meanwhile, they must carefully analyze the concrete situation of the Steel City High. There is no directional relation between one school's success and the general music education programs, which is showed in this argument. So the Saluda school board should draw the final decision carefully.
