TOPIC: ISSUE208 - "The way people look, dress, and act reveals their attitudes and interests. You can tell much about a society's ideas and values by observing the appearance and behavior of its people."

I agree that people's attitudes and their interests and been reflected from the way they look, dress as well as the ideas and values of their society. But sometimes people can disguise themselves with their appearance , so we should observe them and analyze carefully before come to a conclusion.
To begin with, what people wear when they go to work can reflect the culture and values of the society. For instance, it is well known that Japanese wear suits, shirts and ties no matter how hot it is, from which we can see that Japanese society  really care for forms and very sober, while another example can show the emphasis on freedom and democracy of American society. The world famous coorparaion, google, which is famous for its welfare for employers, has a special regulation on what its engineers wear when they are at work which allows them to wear what they like and thus helps them to relax and be comfortable. It is not to say that wearing suits all the time like Japanese do means hard-working while wearing other clothes indicates the employers slack in their work. It just reflects the society's characteristic and its values.
Secondly, what people choose to wear in their daily life draws a clear picture of their interests as well as the society's situation and values. In the 40's and 50's of 20th century, almost all the Chinese were wearing same kind of blue clothes and dared not dress different from others, from which the situation of China at that time can be clearly seen. Because people were poor and restrained by the conservative values of the society, they had no choice but to comply. However, with the development of economics and other areas, products on the market become abundant. People can select their favorite clothes and show their individuality. For example, those who always wear nike indicates that they may fascinated in sports. Also, the girls with nice wake-up and delicate dresses are often interested in fashion. Consequently, clothes which people wear in daily life can better reflect their interests than those they wear to work and also the society's situation can be well characterized.
Thirdly, the way people look and act can also be a good reference for people's inner thoughts and the society's value. If a person looks at others enthusiatistically and does not avoid others' look, she is often considered ardent, kind and honest. What's more, if most people are polite , elegant and are always ready to help others, it indicates that the society views these qualities indispensable and places great importance on education.
However, sometimes people will disguise themselves with the appearance and even the way to look and act for certain purpose and interest. Perhaps they want others to believe them and they can cheat the innocent people for money. Or a spy can deceive others to get information through this way.
In conclusion, it is true that the way people look, dress and act can reflect their attitudes and interests as well as the society's values, but under some circumstances, people may disguise themselves for some purpose. So we should observe them carefully and thus get a conclusion.
