The author tries to illustrate that consumers are becoming more and more interested in growing their own vegetables due to consumer's dissatisfaction of vegetables sold in the supermarket and the best-selling magazine about gardening. In addition, the author recommends that Green Thumb Gardening Center expands the variety of vegetable seeds to receive increasing profits. As far as I am concerned, this assertion suffers from at least three logical flaws. Firstly, the argument relies on a national survey carried on last month which suggests that fresh vegetables available in supermarkets cannot satisfy the demand of many consumers. However, the survey cited here is questionable. The result of a national survey dose not represent local residents' attitude to fresh vegetables sold in supermarkets. It might be possible that local residents like buying vegetables in supermarkets because vegetables sold in supermarkets can accommodate their demand. Even assuming that local consumers are dissatisfied with fresh vegetables sold in supermarkets, it does not follow that local consumers want to grow their own vegetables. They might go to a farm or countryside to buy fresh vegetables they need. In short, the result of a national survey is not reliable. Secondly, the strong sales(the good sale) of gardening magazine do not necessarily indicate that local residents prefer to grow their own vegetables. Perhaps the gardening magazine is popular because the pictures in this magazine are beautiful, and residents like appreciating pretty pictures. Or there is just one kind of magazine Great Gardens which can provide entertainment for residents, so they have no choice but to buy this magazine. The author fails to provide enough information to prove that local residents buy gardening magazine due to their interest in growing their own vegetables. Finally, the author's conclusion that Green Thumb Gardening Center will make profits by greatly expanding the variety of vegetable seeds is unwarranted. Even if local consumers do enjoy growing their own vegetables, the author provides no information about what kinds of vegetable seeds are popular among consumers. It highly is possible that the vegetable seeds sold in GTGC now can meet the demand of local consumers, and there is no need to expand the variety of vegetable seeds. In short, without more information about the preference(market demand?) of local consumers, the author’ notion is premature. In sum, the author fail to substantiate his claim that local consumers enjoy growing their own vegetables,(最好提及关于大量储存种子盈利的论点) because the evidence cited here could not led strong support to what the arguer maintains. To make this argument more appealing, the author should offer more information with regard to consumer’s interest in growing their own vegetables. 结构清晰,语言通顺,不错!加油~ |
