The speaker claims that discovery and progress are made only through mistakes. I basically agree with what the speaker claims for several reasons. First, mistakes can help us discover our own compatible domain. Secondly, mistakes can introduce us to approach the right solution.

We make great progress through trial-and-error. Mistakes can help us to find out what is unworkable and hence we can approach the right solution. Take Thomas Edison as an example, as we know, to find the right material of filament for electronic lamp, Edison had tried countless other materials all of which turned out to be failures. However, supported by his persistent effort in combating failure and experiences learned from past mistakes, Edison finally discovered the suitable filament and invented electronic lamps which was a real boon for people's lives. Therefore, making mistakes is a necessary phase preceding success.

Fearing making mistakes will prevent us from trying new things and taking risk, the right attitude to mistakes is not to avoid them but to learn from them. Alfred Nobel, a famous Sweden chemist, had suffered from mistakes witch cause serious results when he research explosives. A terrible explosion, in one of his experiments, killed his younger brother and other four people. Though bearing overwhelming sadness, Nobel was not daunted by mistakes that lead to this failure, but was driven to seek a safer way of developing explosives.

In sum, The author correctly asserts that discovery and progress are made only through mistakes. Failure is the mother to success. Through making success we can find our own compatible domain and make great progress. We should not fear making mistakes but try to learn from it.
