Is the extended family (grandparents, cousins, aunts and uncles) is less important than it was , 大家庭好还是小家庭?(周六作业）

According to the speaker, people hold different opinion on the extended family, but in my opinion, I think the extended family is deed less important than it was for two reasons: one this extended family has been outmoded; another is that the extended family caused conflict easily.

People maintain sustenance with agriculture in the past. Thus the rooted reason of extended family was the demand of living. Without the modern technique, irrigation, reclaim, and harvest all needed to be done by many farmers. If the number of farmers is small, it was hard for farmers to reap, so they should live together and help each other. Nowadays, however, as the fulfillment of industrialized society, people do not depend on working together to harvest crop. Meanwhile, there are numbers of job besides agriculture could attend, get payment and maintain living at least. Thus, the extended family has merely existed in the society, and its importance must become less.

Furthermore, family members had not tended to live together, since decreasing the unnecessary problem. People become more and more emphasize the essentiality of privacy with the development of society. It is no denying that the members of the extended family know each others' personal details unintentionally. If there is the best way to keep the privacy, it may be leave away. Meanwhile, when grandparents, cousins, aunt and so on lived together, it is too hard to avoid quarrel or being angry with others. As an old saying goes: the excellent judger hardly judge the matters of family. So, in my opinion, nuclear family is a good type to avoid quarrel and keep a harmonious relationship with families.

In the last, everything has its own evolutional track. The primary mode of family is extended family which is quite useful for living. However, this mode is little existing now because of the development of society. The nuclear family is popular for its independence and leisure.
