Is it more important for a teacher to help students gain self-confidence than to teach specific knowledge? 2007.3.10教育类

Nowadays, some may hold the opinion that a teacher should teach students more specific knowledge rather than help them get confidence, but others have a negative attitude. As far as I am concerned, I agree, with reservation, that it is more significant for a teacher to help students gain confidence than to teach specific knowledge. My arguments for this point listed as follows.

One of the primary causes is that one with self-confidence can learn knowledge and make research greatly. One of the most important aims of education is to make it possible to help students become a person having trains of independence and confidence. Only with confidence, can students study and do research better than others. Take myself for example, when I went into college, I was confronted with numerous difficulties from study and daily life. After taking careful consideration, I made strong decision that I must be confident to overcome variety of difficulties occurs in my life. And eventually, I conquered myself, handled with them and achieved good results during my college study.

But there is a further more subtle point we must consider. It is just only a confidence person that can make accomplishments throughout applying specific knowledge to practice. Nevertheless, those who barely have specific knowledge cannot do contributions for society and human being. Let us suppose that, those with a large amount of specific knowledge have no courage to take challenges. Even though those people have brilliant and profound knowledge, they are no significance for society and others.

Admittedly, we definitely can not deny the fact that specific knowledge takes an important role. The very specific knowledge could make it possible for us to tackle with various problems in our daily lives and scientific fields. If we ignore the specific knowledge, it is no use to having confidence to do things.

To sum up, recognizing the importance of specific knowledge and confidence, we should be draw to conclude that confidence is more crucial than specific knowledge, but at the same time, we should not neglect specific knowledge.
