Grades system is usually used to assess a student's performance not only in secondary schools but also in universities. Scores such as GPA is essentially important when students apply for further education and hunt for a job when they graduated. However, some of people question its effect in some extent to which it fails to include skills involving communication and manual operation. In my perspective, nevertheless I still maintain that grade is an effective method to evaluate a student’s study only if it is not the only critique. My reasons are as follows.

Marks of courses cause competition. As a result, it could be a great power to promote students to make efforts on study. For one thing, students in the same class or same major will compete with one another for they all plan to perform better at their stage of study. For instance, if a student with four A in courses knows his counterpart gets five A, he will allocate more time and energy on his courses especially in the condition that students' scores are related to their scholarship. For the other thing, those excellent students who pursue perfect things would be encouraged to gain higher scores. Hardly can preeminent students resist enticed success of getting full marks. In this case, excellent students will not lose the aim of striving. Convinced by the benefits above, it is totally acceptable that such competition resulting from disparity of marks will propel students to learn.

Furthermore, one goal of setting grades aims to evaluate students' understanding of their courses. I concede that grades cannot evaluate all respects of students' ability, yet it plays a significant role in assessment of their study. By grades students can make clear what they are weak in and work hard to compensate what they miss. If there were no grade system, how could students know whether they have mastered knowledge? Based on the analysis above, it is impossible for students to learn because they have no idea of whether they have absorb the knowledge. What is more, if a student gets a low mark in a certain subject, it will warn him to spend more time and energy on this subject. Because of this function of grade that is designed to evaluate the extent to which students study, marks of courses is a main factor when students apply for further study. Consequently, those who pursue higher education will study hard to get higher scores.

In sum, since grades can cause competition and evaluate students' study, I am convinced that grades will encourage students to learn.

谢谢啦

In this case, excellent students will not lose the aim of striving(前后说的都是同一件事吧,都是好学生要strive高分). Convinced by the benefits above, it is totally acceptable that such competition resulting (results)from disparity of marks will propel students to learn.

Based on the analysis above, it is impossible for students to learn because they have no idea of whether they have absorb the knowledge(这句重复,去掉). What is more, if a student gets a low mark in a certain subject, it will warn him to spend more time and energy on this subject. Because of this function of grade that is designed to evaluate the extent to which students study, marks of courses is a main factor when students(which influences students’ application for further study. Consequently, those who pursue higher education will study hard(有太多hard了,建议用diligent or arduous等词代替) to get higher scores.|

In sum, since grades can cause competition and evaluate students' study, I am convinced that grades will encourage students to learn.

感觉观点阐述的有点不够深入,不过,还是不错的
