TOPIC: ISSUE51 - "Education will be truly effective only when it is specifically designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student."
WORDS: 458 TIME: 2:24:29 DATE: 2009-1-10
提纲:
1.注重学生的个性发展是对的
2.但是有些共同的东西必须教给学生
3.个性教育缺乏可操作性
Education today is advanced and of good quality, though it would have been better if students' individual interests are further met. As a result, an opinion is becoming increasingly prevalent that education should be specifically designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student. Only in that way will education be considered as truly effective. However, the fulfillment of students' personality is only one of the indexes that measure the efficiency of education.
Admittedly, it is right to develop each student's individual characteristics. Everybody is different from the rest of the world. Good education respects each student as unique, and fully develops what he/she loves to do. That will make the society a more diversified and colorful one, for it is terrible even to imagine that the world is filled with exactly identical persons. Many famous writers history were extremely bad at maths, and quite a lot of natural scientists did badly in arts. It is stupid to make everyone the same pattern.
However, there are also many common things that education should deliver to students, which is a more important aim of education. Such things include responsibility, moral senses, some basic knowledge, and some other basic trainings. Many of these are disliked by some students, but they are all very crucial for a person in its future life in society. It even can be said that personality development is based on such basic common trainings. It's not correct to judge the efficiency of education only through individual interests satisfying. An education is still effective if it give students some common valuable training.
What' more, it is almost impossible to implement such kind of education as to designed to meet EACH student's personal needs. There are nearly infinite variety sorts of needs and interests from the students, and the amount of teacher and classroom will never be enough. Besides, some interests are quite expensive. If a student is interested in collecting antiques, should the school support the collection? Individual interests should be encouraged, but a more feasible way is not to constrain the interests, and leave the students enough extra-curricula time to do the activities they like. What's more, most students even don't know what their interests really are. That way, the statement of meeting students' personal interests is somewhat ridiculous.
To sum up, it will make a better education to pay attention to each student's personality, but an effective education has many other far more important goals than personality satisfying. As long as an education doesn't suppress the personality development, it is unfair to assert it as not effective only because it hasn't fulfilled every student's individual interests, let alone the infeasibility of satisfying the individual needs of every one.
