When browing newspapers or netpages, we are liable to be attracted by the headline about someone’s scandal, no matter true or fabled. The big ones such as the affaire of Bill Clinton, or financial scandal of Enron call our attention to these problems, because they link to the image of a president, a company, even a country. It is my persuasion that necessary scandals, in the case of authentic reflection and significance, will focus our attention on these problems.

In the sphere of politics, citizens of a democratic country are entitled the right to concern the conduct of their government officials, which is conducive for them to get well known of where their own interests lay, that is where does their tax collected by government spend on, and what does their officials do for them. In the 1960s, to build the Pacific Railway in American, Congress appropriated vast funds, which was under the control of Ames, one member of house of reprentives. Not only did him bribe the chief member, but also collude with other investors. After this scandal was revealed, and special investigate committee was established to publish his crime, people were increasingly focus on how and where their tax was utilized. Therefore, scandals enable us better concern and supervise the function of government, preventing corruption to some extent.

Similarly, in the field of sports, scandals about the bribery, doping, black whistle, etc. largely exist. It is known to us that either Olympics or other sports games are engaged in the theme of justice, which serves as the basic requirement of an athlete. For instance, the Black Sox Scandal at the beginning of 20th centry was one of the severe ball fraud events. However, in this scandals bombing era, although we cannot easily distinguish which is true which is fake, we know what is crucial what is trivial. Everyday we heard from entertainment cirle that one star had a date with somebody, and in another day, he showed an intimate behavior towards someone. That kind of scandals, at least in my view, are meaningless, and there is no need for us to put attention to.

To sum up, scandals are favorable for people, if it concerns a larger circle’s benefits. Through revealing them, a better and healthier atmosphere can be realized.
