正文

The speaker asserts that students should be skeptical to what they study rather than accept what they are taught passively. I fundamentally agree with the speaker's assertion because certain skeptics can bring human being scientific discoveries and the ability of critical thinking, which may lead to social progress.

First of all, skepticism to some extent performs as a large contributor to scientific discoveries. As a matter of fact, in the field of natural science research, people always gain great achievement by being skeptical to established rules and then toppling the long-standing authority. History is filled with examples that lend credibility to this understanding. Take the renowned theory of Copernicus, for instance, if Copernicus had never doubted the long existing theory by Aristotle and Ptolemy that the Earth was the center of universe, the study of astronomy would have been impeded and people's landing on the Moon might have been postpone for hundreds of years. It is the same with the Theory of Relativity of Einstein. Consider Einstein had not doubted Newton's three great laws about physics, human being would have missed the great idea that enlightened generations of people. Consequently, empirical evident informs us that skepticism bring people great ideas and discoveries in the field of natural science research.

Secondly, being skeptical to what they are taught help students cultivate the ability of critical thinking which plays a crucial part with social changes and progress. Obviously, reforms originate from doubt about shortcomings and irrationalness of social systems. Without skepticism, there would be no change and progress in our society. People need look no further than the changes of China in the past two decades to find support for this suggestion. Few Chinese doubted what they had been told by Mao and his officials before 70s last century. At that time, people would rather to struggle with starvation and coldness than to question Mao's ideas and policies. But in 80s when Deng Xiaoping became the spiritual leader of China, he encouraged people to criticize the wrong-headed policies of government. Then great economic changes and reforms happened within the main land of China, which has been the main cause that pushed China to such a high position in the current world.  Apparently, skeptics help bring social changes and progress.

Finally, too much skepticism may lead to nihilism that would hamper both scientific research and social progress. It is belief in right things that bring progress to our society. In fact, educator’s duty is to inform student the basic life values such as loyalty to friendship, love to home and family, patriotism to one’s nation and the like. People will be hard pressed to imagine what our society will be like if people believe in nothing including the basic life values. Clearly, society would be overwhelmed by violence and there would be no progress at all.

To sum up, skepticism helps gain scientific discovery and achievement and brings reform and progress to our society to some extent. Meanwhile, too much doubt may lead nihilism that harms people’s mind and hampers social development.

1.论证的第一段例子似乎都被用滥了,再用恐怕不容易得高分哦;
2.论证的第二段例子占的篇幅稍微多了点;

The speaker asserts that students should be skeptical to what they study rather than accept what they are taught passively. I fundamentally(这里不能用这个词吧,太绝对了,因为从下面你得certain来看你并不是完全统一作者的观点的,还是有保留的,而且题目是说whatever they study) agree with the speaker's assertion because certain skeptics can bring human being scientific discoveries and the ability of critical thinking(谁引起了谁?怀疑引起了critical thinking还是因为有criticalthinking才会怀疑?), which may lead to social progress.(开头观点比较明确,继续看)

First of all, skepticism to some extent performs as a large contributor(贡献者,觉得用动词比较好一些 to scientific discoveries. As a matter of fact, in the field of natural science research, people always gain great achievements by being skeptical to established rules and then toppling the long-standing authority. History is filled with examples that lend credibility to this understanding. Take the renowned theory of Copernicus, for instance, if Copernicus had never doubted the long existing theory by Aristotle and Ptolemy that the Earth was the center of universe, the study of astronomy would have been impeded and people's landing on the Moon might have been postpone for hundreds of years.(人类登月与日心还是地心有关系吗? It is the same with the Theory of Relativity of Einstein. Consider Einstein had not doubted Newton's three great laws about physics, human being would have missed the great idea that enlightened generations of people. Consequently, empirical evident informs us that skepticism bring people great ideas and discoveries in the field of natural science research.(例子是有些陈旧)

Secondly, being skeptical to what they are taught help students cultivate the ability of critical thinking (这就到了前面说的那个问题了,谁决定谁的问题,再看看)which plays a crucial part with social changes and progress. (好像要说社会科学,社会改革的问题,那么主体句可以在明确些)Obviously, reforms originate from doubt about shortcomings and irrationalness of social systems. Apparently, skeptics help bring social changes and progress.(这段些社会科学,思路不错)
People will be hard pressed to imagine what our society will be like if people believe in nothing including the basic life values(nothing怎么还会包含东西呢? Clearly, society would be overwhelmed by violence and there would be no progress at all.

To sum up, skepticism helps gain scientific discovery and achievement and brings reform and progress to our society to some extent. Meanwhile, too much doubt may lead nihilism that harms people’s mind and hampers social development.

TO 小玩

to conquer0824
