In this age of information and technology changing fast, people have more and more approaches to acquire new knowledge. From the last century when television was invented, it becomes a dispensable part of people to get information. It is reasonable to say that television plays an important role in people's daily life, however, the speaker asserts that reading books is not as important as it once was, and people can learn as much by watching television as they can by reading books, hardly could I totally agree with him.

Indeed, television has a lot of advantages in the aspect of introducing some knowledge. First, television can show different knowledge vividly. National Geography Channel is a very good example. This famous TV channel has many scientific programs. When people watch these programs, they can enjoy the significant landscape of different continents. From the African grassland to the Rocky Mountain in the America, all vivid sceneries could be placed in front of audience. These sceneries are completely same with the reality. Second, television can make people to stay abreast of current affairs. Whether the conflict in the others countries or the latest sports news in the other side of the earth can be reported by television immediately. With a television, people can know all current affairs as quickly as possible at home.

However, television also has many disadvantages. For example, the knowledge that television tell people is limited. It is difficult for it to teach people some abstract knowledge, such as the theory of relativity. This abstract knowledge needs people to think and understand by themselves, and people just listen the introduction from television is impossible to comprehend. Moreover, people could not get knowledge through television anytime and anywhere. Normal television is not small enough to put into a pocket, and it needs electric as power. It is not convenient to get information and learn knowledge. Third, there are various programs on the television including some adult programs which is not suitable for children. These programs would have negative effects on the growth of children.

Comparing with television, book has some advantages which television does not have. The amount of information which book contains is much more than that of television containing. The history of book is longer than that of television; therefore a lot of ancient information was only recorded on the books. And some important academic papers are only read from the books too. Furthermore, studying by reading books is much freer than learning knowledge by television. The programs on the television are unchangeable, and people could not choose the knowledge they want to learn. On the contrary, people can find out any book including the information they want in the library. At last, studying by reading books is a more efficient way, because there are too many advertisements in the program, which seriously reduce the efficiency of studying.

In conclusion, although television become an essential approach of people leaning knowledge, reading book is also important as before. Television and book teach people different kinds of knowledge. To acquire information through them together, people can get more progress.
