Do technologies not only influence but actually determine social customs and ethics as the speaker asserts? I concede that technologies were able to influence social customs and ethics. However, in my opinion, I fundamentally disagree with that technologies cannot determine social customs and ethics.

Admittedly, when it comes to the influence of technologies, it is true that technologies have a positive effect on the social customs. With the development of technology, humans increasingly have acquainted themselves with the land, environment, and nature in which they have lived for thousands of years therefore change some social customs. For example, in the past time, lacking the knowledge of technology, Chinese people usually considered the nature phenomena (famine, earthquake, flood and rainstorm) as the indication of deity. Because of the awe to the indication of deity, many Chinese tribes have some traditional social customs that people were holding totem adorations and sacrifices on some specific days. But now technologies help these people gradually learn the essence of nature phenomena with scientific methods, there is no such traditional social customs in areas where they lived.

Furthermore, no doubt did technologies also have a enormous effect on the social ethnics. The issue of social ethics is abstract concept, whereas the technologies make true this abstract concept. For instance, due to the invention of Polygraph which is used to detect the man whether is lying or not, the vague concept of dishonesty has become clear. Many people now have a restriction of ethics that human need be more cautious take responsibility for what he said. If he and she want to tell a lie in a court, detected by Polygraph, then he would be punished by law. It is through corresponding technology that social ethics increasingly have some restriction.

However, hardly did technologies determine social customs and ethics but was deeply influenced by both them. It is out of question that technology was designed to serve for human, in turn, which is embodied and influenced by the social customs and ethics. Consider the human cloning, social customs and ethics fix a limit on human which the technology cannot get across. If not the limit of technology of human cloning, then many illegal clones maybe appear in the world which will ultimately destroy the human's normal life. Or consider the euthanasia, an issue of terminally ill patient should have the right be assisted by medicine in the taking of their own lives, technological methods can help patient ends his life , but there is also a law concerning about the euthanasia that according to patient's will ending his or her life is legal. Without the law, any technological methods to kill one's life contradicted to the social customs and ethnics.

In sum, without the development of technology, the social customs and ethics would not have a great change in present world. However, technology cannot determine the social customs and ethics because that technology cannot excess the limit and law of the social customs and ethics and will be forever influenced by both them.

感觉楼主应该好好的看看例子啊....另外一些非常涩的语言我能读懂一半，如果不是很地道的话最好还是别用。
