    One way to know a person is to observe his appearance and actions, and one way to study a society is to observe the appearance and actions of the people in it. The statement gives us a quick and functional way to realize a person and a society. But I think, observing the appearance and actions of people is just the simplest way to realize the person and the society includes him. In fact, it is far more diffcult to understand a person and a society deeply than just judging them by some superficial factors like observing their appearance and behavior.
    To an individual, it is the fact that the way in which people look, dress and act shows something about ttheir personalities. But you can not judge a person only by his appearance and actions simply. If a person lives next to you always dresses simply, always concerns more about time than others and often discusses the things about his job when he is talking with another person, you can tell that he is the person who takes work as his most important thing in his life. You can make a judgement that this person pays a big passion to his work and his won life. But without this simple judgement, you do not know any more about him. Sometimes, people are willing to conceal or even mislead others about his own vocation and interests in front of them for some certain purposes. For instance, a poor man who loves a woman may dress decently and spend money lavishly in order to show that he is a rich and well-educated man to that woman. In this case, if the woman takes the statement and judge that man by his appearance, she will be misled. Many other examples can be made to show that judging a person by his appearance or actions is not useful in some occasions. My opinion is that you can judge the person who you want to know by his appearance and make a first impression and revise you view gradually before you make your last evaluation about him.
    The way people act can help a person study about a society in which those people live. But if the study requires a precise description and deep understanding about the society. A large amount of surveys and investigations must be made and a lot of statistical works must be done before a conclusion can be made and in most cases the researcher can not make a definite conclusion on the society's ideas and values.
    Given that an individual and a person is two completely different issue. The statement is too absolute.
