TOPIC: ISSUE103 - "The study of history has value only to the extent that it is relevant to our daily lives."

According to the author, the study of history has value only when it is relevant to our daily lives. In my view, there is little history that has no relationship with our daily lives. But when it comes to specific history which is no use for today, we should not spend too much time and vigor on studying it.
To begin with, as an individual, we often feel confused and sometimes frustrated when we meet with difficulties, but those who were in history can frequently give us direction. For instance, Beethoven, who dedicated all his life to music, became entire deaf when he was still middle-aged. But he continued to compose his beloved chapters and left us amounts of masterpieces. When we think about him, we maybe no longer view the current difficulty as something that we cannot go through. Another example is about SiMaqian, the author of the great book, "Shi Ji” which includes the history of two thousand years, who created it in prison and suffered from excruciation. When we imagine his sorrow when he was writing the book, we can feel his adamancy and be encouraged. They not only help us to get over difficulties, but also serve to build our value system which is indispensable in our daily lives.
When it comes to the level of politics, history also plays an important role. We can learn from history and make our society better. Let's take Chinese history for example. There are many emperors in history and almost all of them canonized centralization of power while none of them could escape from being overthrown, which reminds our government that all people long for freedom and democracy. If the dominator deprives people of their rights, they themselves will be overthrown. Thus governors will place more importance on democracy which is closely related to our daily lives.
What's more, the inventions in history also benefits us a lot. If Edison has not invented bulbs, we will still be in dark today. If aeroplanes and trains have not been applied to transportation, we still have to spend days and nights getting to another place. Also, a number of treatment methods and medicines which we are using now are inherited from our ancestors. Without them, we cannot enjoy our current lives.
But there exists the kind of history which is out of date and has no use for our daily lives. For instance, the Geocentric theory which claimed that our earth was the center of the universe, was a wrong theory and was just used as a tool to enthrall people. It is obviously out of date for no one still consider that we are the center and will believe in it or even be controlled by it. Spending too much time in studying it will be a waste of time because there are many other things which occur recently for us to resolve such as the safety of internet and the great pressure on people who are in fierce competition every day. Since these problems newly appeared, there is no experience in history from which we can learn and consequently we have to solve them all by ourselves, which requires wisdom, courage and vigor.
In conclusion, history is a cyclopedia from which we can learn a lot and apply to our daily lives. Yet there still exists the kind of history which is out of date and is of no use to us. We should pay more attention to the former kind of history, absorb useful information from history and try to utilize it to make our society better.
