According to most socialists, socialization is one of the most important means by which one learns to live within his culture and which the society attains its cultural continuity. In this respect(aspect), how our children are socialized has great impact on the destiny of our society. However, socialization in itself is insufficient to promise a fantastic future for our society; creating a better society requires far more efforts. And though we may not be able to give a confidential answer to the question how to raise a child who can better our society, we do know we already know how to foster them to be more concerned citizens.

Socialization is one of the most important way (这是不是要加 in which )our society pass the accepted norms, values, and beliefs of our culture to our children. Through socialization a kid knows what skills and knowledge the culture within which he lives requires of him(读着不通顺), and he also learns the appropriate pattern in which he response to differing points of view. To assess the effects of socialization, one should focus first on family, where children inherit their beliefs in cultural phenomena such as religion, the role of gender, and ethnics from their parents. For parents who hold biased view toward people of differing ethnic groups, it is very likely that their kids will grow into adults unfairly assuming that they are superior than those with different ethnic backgrounds. So if we are to stand a better society for ourselves and our children, we should make sure that our children are all well socialized.
(感觉例子觉得不是特恰当,这一段作者想说明孩子的社会化对社会的影响,像传递风俗传统,学习技能,可是例子却是在说父母对孩子的影响。不知道说的对不对,说错了不要生气呀!)
However, our effort of bringing up our children should never cease in socialization; many other factors also determine how our children can better our society. Frederic Douglass, born a slave and separated from his families early in his life, served for his owner who was strongly against educating slaves and allowing them learn to write and read. Though the slave owner tried to isolate him from the society, he finally succeed in learning to read and write from other white kids and workers, and eventually ascended to a famous anti-slavery activist by means of his desire for knowledge, his strong appetite for freedom, and his significant self-determination. From Douglass, we saw the power of the courage of one's inner conviction, the determination to change one's fate, and the spirit of seeking one's own best value. Only along within these and other factors, good socialization can help our children better our society.
Though our parents, educators, and legislators have long been blamed for their failure to socialize children who can continue to transgress our cultural norms, they actually have succeed in raising children who can abandon the old beliefs and create a better society. We have no longer neglected the rights of women by abandoning our traditional belief that the proper place for them was in the home. We have become more concerned for the welfare of people in different locations and increasing intolerant of violence and cruelty imposed upon them. Last twenty years also witness our cooperation in combating the global pollution problem and in protecting other species from extinction. Our society have also paid more attention to teenagers and set all sorts of programs to prevent them from delinquency. We have also succeed in bringing our crime rate down. We believe our society now is better than it(去掉it) fifty years ago and we can assert that our society has not failed in raising us up.

Socialization, then, may be an important process for our children who are going to stand for a better future, but they should never stop on this step, there are many more they should learn, experience and learn-- determination, courage, and responsibilities and so forth. Our society should also continue to make sure that children can inherit these merits from their parents, and , what's more important, can develop their own view of these spirits by which they can create an even more glorious future for our society.
