    Nowadays, with the development of science and modern technology, people increasingly pay attention to the subjects involving science. Mathematic, biology, botany and so on are all the hot areas, in which a large number of students specialize in at least one of them. However, someone argue that history is also a pretty important subject for all students to learn, regardless of the major they study. Although it doesn’t relate to science, it plays an essential role on students’ values and attitudes about study. I support this point of view.
    First, students who majored in science can’t grasp the essence of it if he or she doesn’t study history. As we know, history is a subject that record world development, including the progresses of science, which are attained by us through our struggling against harsh living conditions, such as natural disasters, diseases and so on. It is these misfortunes from which we suffered that force us to find ways for survival. After dedications of several generations, we just make great achievements in science, improving our life. If students haven’t ever learned these struggling efforts recorded by history, they may not understand how much they’re to pay in order to make achievements in science. Without the motivation of history, they may be so upset that stop fathoming if encountered troubles in study.
    Also, students will shape their value by studying history. Learning history will make them understand that individual is negligible regardless how old he can live and how capable he is. We must pay something for our society and world during our life time, if we wish our names to be recorded in history. They must admire the courage of galileo, who stick to his belief that earth is round even his life is threatened. They must be moved to tears when they learn hundreds of millions Chinese people died when they fought against Japanese invaders, sacrificing their life to liberate the nation under the shadow of Japanese’s region. They definitely realize, through history, that they will also make some contributions to their nations no matter how tiny it may be.
    In a word, it is necessary for students to learn history regardless of their majors. History will set various good examples for them, encouraging them to confront the problems bravely and solve them. Also, students will shape their values, making their commitments to the societies through the learning of history.
