When it comes to the project completed by a team, quite a few people would claim that it holds water that all the group members are graded with the same score; yet, in my point of view, it is unfair for group members when they contributes differently.

First of all, it is next to impossible that every team member do the same amount of work when finishing their common project. For almost most time, the team leader may be considered as the most important contributor, since the leader often takes a role of fueling the discussion among group members as well as striking a perfect balancing the dynamics between shy people and big talkers. It is really critical for the success of a team when the leader explore a rich broth of possibilities to spur his or her group members’ imagination, inspiring their creativity, and buoy up their spirits. In short, the leader is an amazing key for the success of the whole group, thus it is unfair for the leader to take the same score with his or her group members.

In addition, a sense of laziness would arise among group members based on the same score. Provided that everyone in a team receives the same mark, quite a lot of members would become lazy because they will still get the same score as others if they do nothing. In my experience, I joined into a physical discussion group last summer quarter, where the professor would offer us the same score. Some guys became more and more lazy, stayed up late watching television, and went to class unprepared. One or two person even did not take their textbooks or notes in class. In short, the disastrous effects of the same score can never be ignored.

Of course, the result of a project is an effort combination among the all team members. After all, all members are trying their best for the better of the whole group, which makes sense for professors to score all the group with the same marks.

By and large, there is seldom a rhyme and reason for the professor to offer the same score for every member in a group.
