What role should the teacher play on the development of students? Every time when the question is raised, there tend to be different attitudes and answers towards it. Someone deem teachers as those who’re always serious and strict, painstakingly perching the virtue of human and wisdom of knowledge. Others, including me, persist that teachers should take the relationship with his students into account, acting as friends of his students at the first place. I always hear teachers complain about their careers. They claim that it is very hard to be a satisfactory teacher in China where strict way of teaching incurs criticisms from parents while democratic style of teaching can’t make students follow their instructions. I doubt the argument. From my early age, Chinese teachers always appear as the third parent with an absolutely right over students and high levels of academic background. They force you to study and to do what they told you, or you will be punished in terms of low grades in exams or physical abuses. Although they may, to some degrees, teach us a load of knowledge, they can’t make students readily follow them, not to speak respecting them due to the bad relationship with students. I believe, if they pay a little effort to improve their appearance as a teacher, being more kind and friendly to students, they will definitely receive positive responds from the students. That will lead to an easier way to perform their duties. On my point of view, teachers are not the dead objects. We students can get knowledge by books, television, even websites. Since the teachers aren’t the only source for us to get knowledge, then they can give something else. What’s that? I think it is their loves toward students based on the professional moralities. Teachers should be a candle that devote themselves to light students’ mental. Their inner love and devotional spirit will inspire students, letting them gain lots more than knowledge. That’s what we’re expecting from teachers. To conclude, the meaning of teacher is by no means only the one who impart you knowledge. It also means the one who’re closest to your mental and the one you readily depend on.
