“Much of the information that people assume is 'factual' actually turns out to be inaccurate. Thus, any piece of information referred to as a 'fact' should be mistrusted since it may well be proven false in the future”

提纲:1、我承认绝大多数信息将来是要被证明为有误的
2、但是将来被证明为有误的信息在目前至少有可能是正确的
3、即使已经被证明有误了,这些信息还是有价值的。

By saying that any piece of information referred to as a 'fact' should not be considered true in that much of the information that people assume is 'factual' actually turns out to be proven false, the arguer tries to convince us that we cannot trust any information even if it has been proven right. I agree with the arguer on the issue that everything may be proven false in the future, because anything cannot stay steady in universe and is improving from time to time, but I cannot agree with the idea that information now we have should be mistrusted since it is true and useful during certain time, and even if it has been proven false, this information may still be valuable.

Admittedly, information now we take for granted, actually turns out, for much, to be inaccurate. There is a famous example in scientific history to illustrate this point. One century ago when scientists did not accept the theory of relativity, Newton’s laws dominated the whole sphere of physics. However, nowadays it is commonly accepted that Newton's laws are efficient only in the field of low speed world. Yet, no one would neglect their value. Therefore, it is inaccurate to say that Newton's laws should be mistrusted.

Actually, due to the reason that some information that has been assumed 'factual' is a complex of truth and falsity, we cannot treat it simply as useless and mistrusted. This view is going to be carried further from the following two aspects.

First of all, much information, though may be proven false in the future, is useful presently. Historically, the theory of relativity is not qualified to be the ultimate truth and in the future would be replaced just as it supplanted Newton's laws one century ago. Nevertheless, the theory of relativity is still powerful and useful. It is true that there are many phenomena that cannot be explained by this theory, which means this theory even can hardly be assumed factual. Yet it does not sway the status of this theory as the foundation of physics.

Secondly, albeit the information referred to as a 'fact' may contain falsity, the truth it reflects, if any, is still valuable. An example to the point is that the theory on the relationship between inflation and the rate of unemployment. This theory could not explain the Depression, when the inflation was severe as well as the unemployment. Nonetheless, many governments use this theory to regulate their domestic markets, especially those relatively isolated ones.

In conclusion, I agree with the arguer’s assertion that much of the information that people assume is 'factual' actually turns out to be inaccurate. However, the arguer’s averment to mistrust any information needs to be revaluated. Some information referred to as a fact may be powerful and useful despite the flaws in it. The predicament that we have no information to depend on can be expected if we ignore all of the information
