When faced with the question whether college or university education should be available to all students of to the good students only, the answers vary. Some people believe that college or university education should be available to all students, while others hold the vision that only the good students be given the opportunities to attend college or university.

People who support that college or university education be available to all students may argue that it is the right of every student to obtain the same education opportunity, no matter what his/her former score or grade was. Students who failed in earlier education should be given a chance to make up for the mistakes they had made. Furthermore, the evaluation standards to judge a student by his/her in-class performance have a fatal shortage, which in case will seriously mislead the jury. For example, a student who has been engaging in social activities and real projects obtains special techniques and more working experience, but may not as well get high scores in their in-class study. Judging a student only by his/her scores in-class seems absolutely unfair. Thus, sending those “good” students judged by such standards may not be an appropriate action.

People who suggest that college or university education be available only to those good students have a strong feeling that it is the good students who deserve college or university education. It would be a total waste of money and efforts making such education available even to those who are not willing to study or the students who take campus as a shelter against their parents’ wills. They also believe that mistakenly learning attitudes of those bad students must be blamed. In addition, they suggest that if the money wasted on those bad students could had been spent on those good ones, greater progress and achievements could be made.

To summarize, both who support and denied college or university education to all students have their reasons. As to me, I tend to support the idea that college or university be available to all students, basically because I have once been described as a poor student getting low scores in class. It is not that I was stupid or unwilling to learn, but that I found what my interest and ability perfectly meet outside of the sealed classroom. Given higher education, more students similar to my case will surely help with their carriers and realize their dreams.
