Leaders lead people. A lead is one whom others consistently follow. People follow because they have a brief in the direction, integrity and competence of the one leading. It’s obvious that the leader’s moral behavior embodies his dignity, thus the officials must introvert. However, it’s not possible that they must remain the highest moral standards, which is very demanding for a common person. After all, the leaders’ most important purpose are make significant decisions and take them effect. They just should work out their own ideas under basic moral standards.
The leader usually gain some support from the public for his sincere heart and high moral standards. We willingly follow others for much the same reason. People value a leader’s personality through dignity besides his leading ability. People obey the leaders not for who they are, but for how they make us feel. There are countless ways of attaining greatness as a leader, but any road to reaching one’s maximum potential must be built on bedrock of respect for the individual. For example, Enlai Zhou, the prime minister of China in the past, exemplifies the influence of the leader’s moral standards. Not only was he the model of others and the public, but also forced people to undertake his resolve as being encouraged by his dignity.
Adversely, the leader can not carry out his decision under the circumstances that his bad moral quality is disseminated. And then, this will affect the utilities’ beneficial undoubtedly. The first step for a leader to make his program worked out is attaining his subordinates’ trust, or even the public’s. People usually doubt those leaders who did not deal with their private affairs good enough at an angle of moral standards. Even though his opinion and systematic program match well with the temporary circumstances, he may meet more obstacles than the leaders without these problems. Once his dignity is doubted by the people around, the development of the overall project falls behind and the profit and reputation of utility are injured.
However, official leaders are not the moralist. To some extent, they are all common person and just specialist in leading. We should not call for strict critics to limit their ideas and behavior, which may lead some unreal or even deceived fact. The role of the leader is to enhance, transform, coach, care, trust, and cheerlead. The activists of the leader are to educate, sponsor, coach, and counsel using appropriate timing tone, consequences, and skills. It is not their responsibility to arrange everything and act as a model. They have not enough time to think carefully how to behavior both as a leader of capacity and the highest moral standards. Those hypocritical leaders may fake some political phenomena in order to gain the support of the public. So these existent problems lead to the unequal competition for the leading position and at last result that some persons lose the chance to bring their program into play and others are not competent.
Furthermore, some demanding moral standards cause the vanity of human nature and the distortion of dignity of the leaders, intolerance of the public, and at last ignoring the real leading capacity. Firstly, the people who want to become the leader decorate themselves with moral benefaction. And after attaining the goal, they still leave the public the appearance of philanthropists. Then their real ability to solve political problems is obliterated. Secondly, the people become more demanding than before. They may lose their objective critics while judging the achievement of the leader and underline their moral excessively.
Above all, though the leaders’ standards affect the carrying out of their politic decisions at some point, we should not require them to get the highest critic as we thought. As we may primarily benefit from their special opinion, the moral standards should be viewed appropriately as a reference. |
