In contemporary society, various scandals in a great many domains are frequently discussed and inferred, and there is a widespread argument whether scandals are of use. In my view, while scandals are sometimes conducive to expose ill phenomena and help to supervise people's illegal and immoral behaviors, they distract people's attention from more significant issues and waste our time as well as valuable social resources, which themselves should be reduced and even eradicated.

On the one hand, exposures of various scandals are able to reflect those existing ill social phenomena and conduce to oversee illegal and immoral behaviors by drawing the public's attention on those phenomena. They are of use to the extent that they sometimes may be able to sustain fairness of society and secure some individuals' or the public's interests. For instance, the once mayor of Shanghai appropriated a great deal of social security fund for the purpose of purchasing costly villa and cars for himself and his relatives. After exposing the scandal to the public, he was immediately dismissed and a large amount of the social security fund appropriated was retrieved in time fortunately, which was devoted to compensating those who deserved it indeed. In this instance, the scandal can serve to sustain fairness of society and ensure the public's interests, which is conducive to society as well as citizens' life.

On the other hand, paying too much attention to a variety of scandals will necessarily distract people's attention from other more important social issues and in the mean time inevitably waste not only a quantity of people's time but also valuable social resources. A large number of newspaper and television programs, for example, often report diverse scandals involved in enterprise community, such as sexual scandals. In the past year, a series of sexual scandals involved in enterprise community of our country were frequently reported on newspaper, television programs and internet, which amounted to plenty of content of these media. As a consequence, it waste people's a lot of time to find other information what they need and occupy too much valuable media resources, which is no use and benefit to society or the majority of citizens.

Furthermore, we should not concentrate too much on scandals themselves that just are reflections of existing ill social phenomena, but strive to reduce and even eradicate them. It is due to the imperfect laws and regulations and the lack of effective supervision that scandals can be produced on many occasions. Merely paying too much attention to scandals will not conduce to diminish them, though sometimes they are likely to exert a positive influence on capturing the public's attention on those ill social phenomena. As a result, in order to diminish scandals and even eradicate them, we should take measures to amend relevant laws as well as regulations and intensify supervision of people's behaviors, which will naturally lead to fewer scandals.

In sum, while scandals can draw the public's attention on ill social issues and are likely to benefit fairness of society as well as some people's or the public's interests to some extent, we should make every effort to reduce or even eradicate them instead of paying too much attention to them which will inevitably distract us from other more significant problems and waste a lot of valuable time as well as social resources.
