题目:ISSUE103 - "The study of history has value only to the extent that it is relevant to our daily lives."

Are the historical studies valuable only when they meet the needs of our daily lives, or at least have certain relations? Concerning this issue, fundamentally I am prone to assert that the studies of history, whether they are directly relevant to our daily lives or not, are of much benefit. Or else, no one would waste research resources to make inquire in the field which are useless to human beings.

Obviously, historical studies ,which have direct relations with daily lives of the public, are proved to provide us guide or assistance in outlining our life styles. An illustrating example involves that in ancient times, the Nile River flooded regularly every year, which not only destroyed house and yards of the people living nearby the river, but also carried with great amounts of nutrition to fertilize the soil. Naturally, sages of ancient Egypt carefully researched the flooding rules of the Nile River according to historical records, and made corresponding laws to inform the public when to keep away from the river and when to come back to restart their agriculture on the soil with nutrition.  Thus, suppose there was nobody to research the rules of Nile River, the result would, inevitably, turned out to be that when flood came, all Egyptian near the river had little time to escape from great danger, and they not only had their home destroyed, but even unfortunately lost their lives, let alone to enjoy the nutritional endeavor of the Nile River. Under this circumstance, researches of history could draw regular laws to guide the people how to get rid of misfortune and how to further promote living quality.

However, that is not to neglect the significance that the kind of historical studies which are irrelevant directly to our daily lives have on us. Hereby, I would claim that such kinds of historical studies are still able to admonish political leaders and the government not to follow evil way, but to copy beneficial examples of the ancestors. Consider, for example, studies and researches on one of the greatest tragedies in human history- The Second World War have warned German not to go on with Hitler’s fanatical activities to conquest the whole world. Fortunately, recently the Germany government has made much introspection of the guiltiness their ancestors once made. Accordingly, except for only a small proportion of Nazism zealots, the whole Europe has got rid of the nightmare of Nazism, which would eliminate significant obstacles on the way to world peace. Obviously, studies of this kind are not have close relation with the most ordinary public, for they, to some extant, only offer macro guide to the government in contrast to give direct regulation to citizens to form their ways of lives. While, indeed, these studies make extrordinary contributions to avoid disasters to grant safe and comfortable living environment for human beings.

What is more, the studies on history also have the ability to maintain cultures, and then soothe cultural loneness of the public. And such kind of studies, to much extent, are irrelevant to our daily lives, for we would seldom have deep thought about how did our ancestors live or the importance of certain historical events. Even though we may linger here and there in some historical spots, so little do we think about the background of such spots or their positions in history. More or less, we need to confess that we just consider them as direct sensual joy or satisfaction, instead of going to the level of historical studies. Thus, I can assert such kind is still irrelevant to the most ordinary lives.  However, such studies make history traceable, and then the very studies are able to soothe the serious loneness that we know nothing about our ancestors and our fathers were not with us. Consider, for instance, the history of The Summer Palace would not only lead us to admire the uniquely intelligence of ancient Chinese people, but reveals the tragedy of invasions. And the artwork presented in The Summer Palace also silently but impetuously tell their prosperity and pity faith, which inspires the desire to guard our motherland. When asked , we all have confidence not to confront denouncement for deserting our ancestors, or in other words, being deserted by our ancestors. So based on the comment above, the kind of historical studies, even though with little close relation with daily lives of the public, are still of much value.

While, I still need to confront a question that is there definitely no study of history has little or even no value, for I can not include all possible aspects of historical studies. Here I am not inclined to worship Hegel's aphorism" exist namely the truth", however, I would be for the point that without certain value, the amount of resource spent on studies of any kind would only turn to be a waste. Though, some zealots of a certain subject, which few people would babble in and in the eyes of the public would be entirely useless, would pursue their aim disregarding great loss or waste of material resources, they, to some extent, are just pursuing to obtain individual value and self-satisfaction by reaching their aim. To some extent, that is a certain form of value. As a result, there would never exist studies of no value at all, albeit that the amount of value-much or little- might differ from positions of each individual.

To sum up, historical studies no matter have direct or indirect relations with our daily lives, and the point would be that diverse individuals may have different judging criterions.

First of all, to study history is to look at a road map of human behavior that has led us to where we are today in the world. For example, the lessons learned during all of the past wars can make for more effective wartime leadership by avoiding mistakes made by past commanders. From the ancient Chinese author Sun Tzu's book "The Art of War", today's military commanders and even business leaders gather valuable information that allows them to operate more efficiently and effectively.

Another example is that by studying history, parents can help to improve the lives of their children in the future.

Additionally, the study of medical advances made throughout history can be the foundation to build upon to make the medical advances of today and tomorrow to make people live longer and healthier lives.

A further example of the value of the study of history beyond its effect on daily life is the treatment of the environment and the earth as a whole

Naturally, sages (红宝词汇,好啊)of ancient Egypt carefully researched the flooding rules of the Nile River according to historical records, and made corresponding laws to inform the public when to keep away from the river and when to come back to restart their agriculture on the soil with nutrition. Under this circumstance, researches of history could draw regular laws to guide the people how to get rid of misfortune and how to further promote living quality.(例子举得很合适,也描述很详细,但是我也觉得偏长了点啊,可以概括一下哦)

However, that is not to neglect the significance that the kind of historical studies which are irrelevant directly to our daily lives have on us. Hereby, I would claim that such kinds of historical studies are still able to admonish (又一个红宝词汇)political leaders and the government not to follow evil way, but to copy beneficial examples of the ancestors. Consider, for example, studies and researches on one of the greatest tragedies in human history- The Second World War have warned German not to go on with Hitler’s fanatical activities to conquest the whole world. Even though we may linger here and there in some historical spots, so little do we think about the background of such spots or their positions in history. More or less, we need to confess that we just consider them as direct sensual joy or satisfaction, instead of going to the level of historical studies. Here I am not inclined to worship Hegel's aphorism" exist namely the truth", (这个名言引用在这里很恰当啊)however, I would be for the point that without certain value, the amount of resource spent on studies of any kind would only turn to be a waste. Though, some zealots of a certain subject, which few people would babble in and in the eyes of the public would be entirely useless, would pursue their aim disregarding great loss or waste of material resources, they, to some extent, are just pursuing to obtain individual value and self-satisfaction by reaching their aim. To sum up, historical studies no matter have direct or indirect relations with our daily lives, and the point would be that diverse individuals may have different judging criterions.
