Today, a lot of artworks are collected in museum and art gallery; these artworks are always with lasting value such as Mona Lisa which is fulfilled by Leonardo da Vinci. Many critics give great and excellent value to it. Does society's lasting value is gived by critic? The speaker claims so. As far as I am concerned, appraise or criticism to artworks help people to recognize artworks to some extent. So, the lasting value of society is both the work of artist and the work of critic.

First of all, Artist gives society something of lasting value. They take beautiful things to all the people; they make us happy; they also give us encouragement and confidence. For example, the music of Beethoven, he is a German Composer, lost his hearing in 1801 and was entirely deaf by 1819. However, he is one of the most famous and profic composers in art history. His music including 9 symphonies, 5 concertos, several senates and so on forms a transition from classical to romantic composition. The beautiful and true feel it takes to us is really lasting value of our society. It is created by him, without Beethoven, such valuable artworks cannot exist. Only the criticism of critics cannot show apperance of art. Thus, the basic contribution to society of lasting value is artist, without them, no lasting value even exists.

In the other hand, works of artist make people to understand something deep of our society. We can research history, political state from works of prevenient artist. The novels of Mark Twain tell us the situation of the time including good things and bad things. The novels are always impersonal and just to respond the things in the era. But at first, the novel was regarded as a humurous novel without any political and historical meaning. Then, under the help of critics, the novol now was thought to be a classic literature. So, we cannot neglect the important role of critics in our modern time, especially news  is changed so quickly nowadays. The effect of critics are more and more essential.

However, the critics also do their work. They find excellent artworks for our society, they do all their best to help people to understand artworks, and they make us enjoin art from a better angel. The novel Don Quixote was first thought to be a humorous novel, the prologs and illustration of the book were all humorous; but under the critics' work, it becomes to be a deeply historic and educational novel.
Moreover, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, what is the meaning of last value?  The answer is different from person to person. It depends on the viewer not the artist or critic. When we treasure up our photos, post card and gifts from our friend, we also think these things are valuable. For strangers, those things may be just a piece of paper in theri eyes. Therefor, we cannot simply draw to the conclsion that lasting value is created by artist or critic. Lasting value is such a relative conception.

Sometimes, critic hold back the development of art especially when revolutionary time of art. In such a special time, different critics have varieties of views for artworks. For instance, the American writer Mark Twain attack the corruption of politics and the black of the society, the politician of the time use critic to rebut his works. Another example is Shakespeare, Voltaire oppose the Shakespeare's view just because he did not conform neo-classical principles. So, critic also can exhibit the development of lasting value. Critic can give not only positive but also negative effect on lasting value.

In conclusion, both artist and critic are contributed to our society for something of lasting value. The judgment above is unilateral. Some artworks are treasure of society; artist, critic and even every person are responsible to protect them and last lasting value of society.
