In the course of human and life, art, which to us appeared in passing fragments, developed in a beautiful continuity. Through art, human beings achieve the well being of life physically and psychologically. However, besides art and its incarnation-music, literature, painting,abundant in quantity and diverse in form, how do we judge the value of critic to whom we heavily rely to gain our cognition of arts? Critics, who combined well with artists albeit sometimes reciprocally repulsive deserve our contemplating, delving, and detecting especially whether or not they has contributed a lot to human society no matter in empiricism or conception.

As is known to all, art which evolves with the evolution of human beings is always playing an evitable role in the long river of culture, serving us as an effective remedy as well as a favorite recreation to edify our minds and spirits. Since Renaissance to post-modernism, from Bach to Beethoven, no matter Gothic sculpture or Picasso's cubism, the glorious world created by artists lifts human spirit and put us move in touch with our feelings, foibles and fate-in short, with our own humanity. Look at the potato eaters painted by Van Goth-dark and somber, sometimes crude, these early works evidence his intense desire to express the misery and poverty of humanity as he saw it among the miners in Belgium. Also Duncan, whose modern dance with bare foot and enthusiastic posture got human mind out of the shackles from inner and outside world. What artist showed us bears so much social and historical significance that they are created in one time but actually for all the time.

However, to analyze the lasting value of artists is only one part, though vital. Human spirit can never only be trenched by artists; instead we should in no case neglect what critics devote to us.

We may look into every possible length of critics, nevertheless, the foremost reason for praising their achievements is that they provide us with sufficient perspectives of observation, backgrounds even multiple critical thinkings of the artists' works. When Picasso's Guernica may present itself first as a pile of strange images and intricate structures, the critics may expose its profound meaning of the passion and compassion of the artist toward the eternal misery of human beings-war. In this sense, the job of critics is not to seal us up like sausage but to help us expose the riches and peals in every classical or elusive art works.

A more essential factor why I advocate the lasting value of critics is their function of aesthetic direction or even can be extend to the value system of human society. There is a lot of truth in the old saying that human is a mixture of god and devil. No guidance in their aesthetic interests may lead to a final chaos and derogation. A single fact is worth a shipload of arguments. In our modern society, people in increasing number, as the social dynamic developed rapidly, wrap themselves in superficial and deteriorate sense indulgence. They appreciate violent films and sexual pictures, decent arts compelled to the corner step by step. The role of critics is expected as a dosage of stimulus to remind even warn the society what is beauty, truth, and originality. Meanwhile, our artists directed by the advocates of sober critics will bring us more and more great works with eternal and lasting values and keep promoting the improvement of human spirit.

In conclusion, the best way to achieve a harmonious and wonderful society is such a staggering task that partial concentration on artists' lasting value would be mistaken and misleading. Not until both the critics and artists exercise their positive compact on human beings can we hit a grand slam.
