3 同时代评价有个时候不一定准确，例如梵高的例子。死后比死前更出名
There is a public controversy nowadays over the issue of the greatness of individuals. Some people believe that the greatness of individuals can be decided by their descendants。I partially agree with this opinion. However, insofar as the greatness of individuals could also be decided by their contemporaries.

In the first place,a lot of innovations and achievements made hundreds of years ago which belong to past giants could still benefit people who live in the modern world.Those who make significant contribution to the development of society deserve the veneration from the descendants.The giant people left us in not only the great material treasure,but also precious spiritual treasure.For instance,the invention of the light bulb by Edison opened a brand new electrical age which help modern people live a colorful nightlife.And Da Vinci’s “Mona Lisa” and “Last supper”painted hundreds of years ago are still cited as some of the best example in the world and visited by hundreds of thousands of people.Just because of these past giant persons’ diligent work ,creative ideas and masterpieces, the modern people could live in a comfortable and convenient life,and enjoy the treasure left by our predecessor.In this way,obviously the descendants can make an objective evalution on the basis of achievements left by the past giant people.

In the second place,the greatness could also be evaluated by their contemparies.The achievements of these giant people only benefit the decendants,meanwhile people who live in their times could also enjoy their achievemts despite the inventions and ideas does not have a far-reaching impact in the time period which they lived in.The contemporaries of the giant persons are the direct benefactors of all those achievements,and the descendants are the indirect benefactors.The contemporaries of the great person also could make an evalution toward them.For example,annually the rewards of the Nobel Prize are given to the scientists who make special and vast contributions to some scientific field,and the judge are some other famous scientists.This case can clearly and persuasively illustrate this point that the giant people could be decided by the peole who live in the same time period as them.

Admittedly,there are some examples that the person who didn’t get appropriate evaluation before he or she died.However,after he or she died,the apporiate evaluation is given by the descendants which seems too late and pitiful.A well-known example is the artist Van Gogh.when he was alive,his work seldom got appreciation by the comtemporaries.However,after he died,the descentdents found out the great value of his work which now are thought of invaluable masterpieces.

In sum,the greatness of individuals can be evaluated either by the descendants or their contemporaries,and both of these two evalution could be objective.
