Issue 147: “Traditional and modernization are incompatible. One must choose between them.”

Nowadays, as the pace of the modernization is fasting, it is inevitable that there are some controversies between tradition and modernization. But this does not meant that they are incompatible. If we handle them harmoniously, they can exit well and our life will be very colorful because of them.

In the first place, tradition is handed down from many years ago, which is the deposit of our ancestors' intelligence, experience and conclusion and can not be abandoned with the development of modernization arbitrarily. It is true that tradition has many advantages that modernization can not supply, like telling us the story of ancestors, the living condition, habits and culture. For instance, we can know the culture of Qing dynasty by research some traditional clothes. We can also learn some experience and techniques by studying some old buildings. Though the modernization has supply us more colorful and fascinating clothes and skyscrapers, there are no reasons that we should desert this traditional clothes and old buildings. Sometimes we can consider the tradition as a fossil for us to study the history, which implies the importance of tradition to us.

Secondly, with the development of modernization many people feel boring and tired for the modern life and hope to live in some traditional ways. The fast pace of modern life makes people has no enough time to enjoy life. Though the streets are becoming much wider, decorated with modern instruments and with skyscrapers erecting on sides of them, there is no fresh for the people living in the city, who see them everyday and feel tedious with them. So many streets imitating the traditional style are built to meet their need for living an old life. Another case of this point is that Chinese costume is popularized now. Though the modern technique makes the dream of people that they can wear any kind of clothes that they want come true, people now are always not satisfied now with the modern condition. They are uninterested with the luxurious clothes, not because they can not afford them, just because of the sight fatigue for them. On this condition, Chinese costume is their choice. So it is clearly that tradition can sometimes compensate the modernization.

Admittedly, there are some bad traditions should be deserted by the modernization. It is true that not all the traditions are proper for us to inherit and absorb. After all, the knowledge of ancestors is limited. Because of their ignorance，it is inevitable that there are some mistakes in traditions. On this condition, we should analyze them clearly, adapt some positive aspects and abandon the dross. For instance, in some traditions, it is forbidden to marry with foreigners, which can not be accepted by ancestors. However, in modern life, this is the fruit of global communication. So with the development of modernization, many conservative ways of life that are controversy with the open style of modern life should be abandoned.

In all, it is not incompatible between the tradition and modernization. The criterion of choosing them is whether it can serve us life more comfortably. The correct attitude of us to treat them is not arbitrate to make a choice between them, but to handle them properly and harmoniously so as to improve the quality of our life.  
Issue 28: “Students should memorize facts only aster they have studied the ideas, trends, and concepts that help explain those facts. Students who have learned only facts have learned very little.”
Syllabus:
I agree with the statement.
1. Only by studying the ideas, trends, and concepts that help explain the facts can students comprehend them thoroughly and memorize them firmly.
2. It is true that no more will be got if learned only facts. The purpose of us to research the facts is to find the essence that they stand, get reasonable theory to explain them and get experience for other facts.   


Issue 130: “How children are socialized today determines the destiny of the society. Unfortunately, we have not yet learned how to raise children who can help bring about a better society.”
Syllabus:
It is true that children stand the future of the society and determine the destiny of the society. As the development of the society, the socialization of children has got progress because of the contribution of the education. However, there are also some problems needed to be perfected.
1.       In the past, we have make large progress in socialization if children. The equality of the children has become more and more high.
2.       Admitted, there are some problems that should be corrected. Such as overemphasis of the score has caused some children to grow in an irregular way and form some twisted characteristics.
