1.从市民的行为衣着是否多样化可以判断这个社会是开明还是封闭。
2.而就个人而言，根据一个人的衣着和行为可以判断这个是追求实用还是追求时髦？...
3.还是就个人而言，随着全球化的趋势，人们可能穿一样的衣服。在重要的场合，人们的衣着也有要求。所以不能反映ideas and values.

Do people's appearance and actions indicate a society's ideas and values, as the speaker claims? I concede that in certain aspects the way people look, dress, and act reflects their attitudes and interests. However, in my view, the speaker unfairly generalizes, especially considering present trend of globalization.

On a societal level, diversity of people's appearance and actions can be accurate indicators of the extent to which a society is open. Consider, for example, when a tourist comes to today's America for the first time, he will feel a enlightened circumstance watching American citizens dressing and doing in different ways. In such societies, individuals will not be laughed at when he or she wears strange clothes, or speaks with a heavy accent. It seems that people appreciate a different way from others ranging appearance to actions. Moreover, one will feel upset when he or she finds that a person wears the same clothes in a party. In many other countries it is not the case. It might seem that a society where people dress in a similar way and deal with things particularly the same places a low value on individual character.

On a personal level, in certain aspects people's appearance and the way they act indicate their values and interests. A person in a sportswear might be interested in physical exercise or values individual physical health. A person who always walks and speaks fast seems leading a busy lifestyle. And, a person who tends to work long hours might values hardworking and pursues a successful career. However, in my observation, the way people look, dress, and act is more often due to other reasons. For instance, a woman who does not wear too much clothes in winters perhaps not because of a sense of beauty, but because that she has a inside job. Moreover, it is easy to understand that the more a country is developed, the more citizens in that country dress fashionably.

On the other hand, as globalization continue to accelerate, it is not rare people from different countries dress in a similar style, or handle matters in the same steps, or even speak the same language. International cooperation brings their products all over the world. People collect information from Internet, which inevitably shapes their thought. In some formal occasion, people are required to wear formal suits, and to be able to communicate in English. In short, there is no much to tell about the ideas and values of a particular country when it comes to globalization.

In sum, I agree with the speaker insofar as people's appearance and behaviors reveal individual interests and society's values in some cases. However, globalization and many other reasons demonstrate it is not always the case.
