【大纲】

1. 让步说明我们教育是重视推理和认知能力的(这里我把 the intellect 理解为理性)
2.说明社会上人们理解事情还是不够理性,不能按照我们课堂上教学一样,按常规推理,往往让情感、贪婪、憎恶等等情感所操纵---说明不够重视;引申出不够重视的后果和重视的意义~~
3.再次让步说明太理性是否会导致创造性思维的枯竭~~结论当然是不会拉~~
【正文】
I fundamentally agree with the speaker that our society does not emphasize abundantly on the intellect which means reasoning and other cognitive skills. When humans are dealing with issues that are relevant to their own interest, their sense of intellect are prone to give way to such emotion as hate, greed, and yield to the authority.

I concede that we favor a systematic society which is dominated by the intellect, which is, doing thing according to the logic reason. However emphasis is merely put in the realm of education. The curriculum of formal education encourages the formation of the intellect. One needs look no further than the principals that educators favor. In the science class, the teacher imparts much theory according to which we can explain the astronomical and geographical phenomena. In the history class, when we dissect a historical event, we learn to analyze and reason the cause of such event and build a causal relationship.  For example, the prosperity of Middle East empires like Osman leaded to the thriving of the West Europe, which is due to that the former find a new way to transport the merchants through the latter and thus resulted in the goods gathering in West Europe and boosting the local economy. But this is the case in the field of education, nor in most of our society.

When it comes to the settling problem relating to one’s own interest, many people are prone to be overwhelmed by the emotion but not the intellect. Remarkable examples can be seen here and there during the process of history. In a small range, the incidence of hate crimes is increasing at an astonishing speed; the level of the distrust between African American and the White American seems to be growing.  To a larger scale, the wars between tribes, the entanglements between Iraq and other countries and what is more, anti-social behaviors, violence, even horrific atrocities, holy wars, which are resulted from the human nature and instincts, say, hate, greed, lust for power and domination, cause hundreds of thousands of  people lose their homes and even die. During this process, where does our intellectual sense? Where are our sense of fairness, justice, and equity? Why human beings can not make use of the intellect to tackle the problems. Where is the slogan – world peace we boost in the UNSCO? Does it really executed by our humans using merely only a little humanity notion instilled by our educators. That means, the society does not emphasize enough on the intellect. Take another example in the realm of business; the leaders of company are all aware of that we should protect our environment for the offspring and can not pollute the environment. This deed is reasonable to keep a favorable living space for the afterward lives. However, involving in their own interest, some may appropriate the resources of the company to serve for their own. Too much unreasonable can be provided to prove that our society do not pay much emphasis on the intellect.

However, some may argue that too much emphasis focused may has a chilling effect on the creativity, which may do harm to the society. Here what I want to claim is those artists create their works basing on the theory, technique, and skills. For example, dancer should master some basic principals to dance and then he or she can create some masterpiece. And creative writing requires the cognitive ability to understand how language is used any how to communicate ideas properly. All these principals are regarded as the intellect. Thus, the creativity comes into being rooted in the intellect.

In sum, as the intellect plays an important role in keeping an orderly society, we should put much emphasis on it. But the society ignore it due to some of our nature, say, emotions and feelings which can do harm to our society. Thus, more emphasis should be placed.

如果让我写的话,我会在B2里写跟你相反的观点,从正面来说理性的好处,对于科学研究、证券分析、市场调查等很多行业都需要理性的分析、调查才能得出具有说服力的结果。而我的B3会写过于理性会扼杀创造力,尤其是在艺术方面,那是需要激情的!


这就是这个文章的出入,网上各说纷纭,让我没有头绪~~8月高频,建议你也写写~~
