Along with the development of science and technology, video cameras are widely used in our everyday life by which people can record beautiful and vivid scenes. I agree the opinion that video camera play a vital role in contemporary life. At the same time, however, the importance of written records should not be neglect.

It is no doubt that by using video camera we can take accurate and convincing record of our life which can not be achieved by written measures. Fox example, the famous documentaries such as Discovery and National Geography impress people with their lifelike and vivid pictures by which it is appears to us that we are just on the site and view the animals and plants by ourselves. Without cameras no such telling pictures can be shown to us by other tools, especially written records. Furthermore, cameras can also provide real time news and live programs. Imagine relying on the written description to document the arrest of Sampson on the highway, it would far less interesting to the audiences.

Nonetheless, written records can be more effective as compared to video cameras in some certain situations. Lacking ability of record concrete matters, though, written records could serve to depict abstract ones. For instance, when people express their thought and emotion, written record might be more benefiting tools. The Beast in The Jungle, a novel written by Henry James, in which the protagonist believe that his life is to be defined by some catastrophic or spectacular event and at last he finally learns the great misfortune of his life, strikes readers by its splendid description of roles' psychological action. How can these be conveyed by cameras? In fact, video can only convey vivid pictures but not complex emotions.

In addition, written records are very often used as law document and commercial contract that can not be replaced by cameras. People always see that the sentence decisions made by court are often in written records, so do the contracts signed by business companies. It is hard to imagine that these records are made in videos. Moreover, the law words, regulations, and some other files all can not be replaced by videos.

In sum, both cameras videos and written records are valuable to our life because they play vital roles in different aspects. Before the newly invented tools are capable of replacing them, they are equally indispensable to us, at least for now.
