------题目------
Most people choose a career on the basis of such pragmatic considerations as the needs of the economy, the relative ease of finding a job, and the salary they can expect to make. Hardly anyone is free to choose a career based on his or her natural talents or interest in a particular kind of work.
------正文------
It's true that most people choose a career on the basis of pragmatic considerations rather than his or her natural talents or interests in today's world where the business life becomes the mainstream. Choosing a career seem to be a personal affair but it actually be affected by some external factors. In my opinion, we should take a rational viewpoint on this issue.
On one hand, many people actually choose a career on the basis of pragmatic considerations. Because in today’s world who has a lot of money will live a more comfortable and happier life. More money means that you can enjoy the luxurious life, which becomes more and more popular goal for everybody to pursuit in a business society. At the same time, more ease in work will let them escape from the modern job pressure and have more time to enjoy material life. So, it is easy to understand majorities of people choose a career mainly on the amount of salary and the relative ease. As a result, law, medicine and business become the hottest major in every country especially in some large business cities in which lawyers, doctors and CEOs are the three highest salary people. In China, even if some students who choose other majors pay less attention on basic subjects than English, Computer skills and other pragmatic skills in social life, which are cared by employers.
On the other hand, there are still some persons who choose their career on their interests not on money or other pragmatic considerations. These people who usually experienced more pain than common persons finally made a good contribution to society. Scientists spend much time doing experiments on their own interests .They have no extra time or even do not take into consideration how to change their life condition and how to earn more money at all. As a famous physicist, Mary Curie is a good example for us to learn. When she was so poor that she didn’t afford some foods, she took her favorite physics and mathematics as her mental foods. Even if she and her husband discovered the element of Ra, which would have brought them economic benefits and reputation, she gave up to apply patent and even donate a gram of Ra which they refined from an enormous amount of pitchblende. At same time, some artists give up the stable and high-paid jobs and devote themselves to the career of art. If Dutch postimpressionist Van Gogh had chosen be a art dealer like his brother rather than art as his career, we would have not enjoy these classic works-"sunflowers", "Potato Eaters" and "Bedroom at Arles" etc.
In balance, we should take both personal interests and pragmatic considerations such as salary into account to choose a career. No economic basement is unrealistic for us to live but taking more attention to money leads to same tiring life because we may face the unfavorable job every day. In addition, an preferable career can bring more psychological satisfaction and provide more stimulus on working than a boring one, maybe you can not get much money at first, but after a while of hard working, the achievements you gain from the job can bring reputation and economic benefits finally.
Finally, a career is not just a tool for us to survive but also a way that we realize our values as a individual in society, we should take a integrated consideration on the base of both practical aspects and interests.
