"High-profile awards such as the Nobel Prize are actually damaging to society because they suggest that only a few people deserve such recognition."

When we praise some intelligence for their contributions , we may always mention the prizes they own. Definitely, the Nobel Prize is the most famous prize which aims to praise those who do great contributions to the development of science and society. However, someone maintains that the Nobel prize has negative effects on society rather than generates benefits, by saying that there is only a few people deserve such recognition. In my view, the high-profile awards benefit the society after all.

In the first place, the awards serve as recognition of one's contribution regardless of its high profile. When researchers work hard and sometimes even sacrifice our sleep and health in order to discover some affairs and invent new facilities, the underlying desire of them may not be the high rewards but the recognition from the experts in the relevant fields. It is human beings' basic and natural needs to prove their value through solving some difficulties and dealing with tough problems. If we succeed in the end, we tend to desire the outside recognition no matter who show it, maybe our family, our friends, our colleagues and boss, and so forth. The more people recognize our contribution, the more motivated we will be, as a result, the more time and energy we would like to contribute to the research, consequently, the more findings and innovation will come into being. Ultimately, the technology develops and the society move forwards. If the results of the research conform to the legislation, who can deny the society will benefit from them directly or indirectly.

Secondly, it is the social awareness accompanied by the rewards that arouses people to pay attention to some new or ignored realm. History presents some many examples to support my opinion. For a specific instance, the recent Nobel Economic Prize was won by an economist to prize his great contribution to the basic assumption of classical economy. Through extensive and deep research on the behavior of common people when they make choices, the ecnomist find that not every one is rational, and even if one is rational in a choice deternimination, it does not warrant he/she will be so rational in the next choice. According to the research, the basic and fundamental assumption of economy- "people are rational all the time"-is shocked dramatically. Without the Nobel Prize, the results can not receive the awareness all around the world, and the economist in some ill-informed countries may not know until years later. Neither these ill-informed economist nor the common people will benefit from the restriction of information.

Last but not least, the awards are important revenue of a further research. What I should point out is that the awards are not so high as we suppose. As far as I concerned, the financial prize can not make up for the research expense in some cases. However, in the name of the prize, the researchers can gain more financial support arranged from the government to the non-profitable organizations, because their celebrity is so eminent that a myriad of people admire them ,believe in their research capacity ,and are willing to invest or support them.

All in all, in a society where the competition is inevitable and the resources, including financial and natural resources, are limited, it is necessary to prize for only a few people. Only in this way, the effects of the awards can be concentrated and the results of the research can arouse more social awareness. Admittedly, there are some researchers who also contribute to the society, yet they can win some less famous awards. As a result , every level of contribution receive its deserved rewards, and the society benefit from all of them eventually.
