The study of history has value only to the extent that it is relevant to our daily lives.

What is the meaning of study history? Is it only for practical value? The author says so. However, the author does not comprehensively understand the value of history. History, as the past experiences or events, is the precious treasure that our predecessors left for us.

To begin with, history provides valuable experience for us. History like a mentor can give us important courses which can help us to save a lot of time and energy. It nurtures us by showing us the previous experience. We can see this from many aspects, for example, the history about the Black Death in the 14 century gives us an impressive course on how horrible the epidemic plague was. And such experience reminds us that we should learn how to prevent the plague like malaria, SASA, mad cow epidemic, and bird flu, etc. Actually the previous experience in prevent the plague really provide important information about how to cope with the crisis that is easy to spread around the world. The sanitation measures of eliminating the bacteria are good way to prevent such horrible epidemic illness. Thanks to the great physicians like Pasteur, Ronald Ross, Miller, now we learn the efficient way to conquer the dreadful illness like malaria. Their methods of preventing the plague are still used today. And we will continue to use their precious experiences in the future.

In addition, history is a mirror which can reflect the reality of nowadays. By learning the history, we can avoid entering into the detour, since history can reflect the realistic world like a mirror. History has a repetitive character in that many events are similar although they may happen in different eras. There are many social problems repeat every few yeas in our society. We can learn from history about the trend of world and about the way to choose the right direction. History told us that the welfare of the multitude is the key factor of a stable society. In the past thousand years, many riot and revolution happened because of the masses' dissatisfaction about their status quo. The February Revolution pulled down the feudalism in French. And the many insurgences all over the world are due to the government's ignorance about the multitude's interest. From this point of view, government should take effort to improve the welfare of the citizen. And history also gives us similar instruction in other fields. In the science field, scientist can learn the research direction by study the past experience. Like the compass the past experiences can give us the direction for process. Stephen Hawking maybe the most famous scientist in the 21 century; this great man, who need aided by the audio equipment in order to communicate with others, proposed the famous theory of black hole base on Einstein's theory of relativity and quantum. Without Einstein's experience, it may hard for Hawking to finish such great achievement.

Moreover, history helps us know our original root. The root of human's origin maybe the most important issue that every generation try to unties this mystery. Where are we come from? And where shall we go? By studying the past we can solve such problem, or if we cannot give the exact answer, at least we can understand the rough one. By studying the history of the Neanderthals and Cro-Magnons we know that our ancestor defeated the modern mankind's relative--the Neanderthals who was known to dwell in the earth for more than 300 thousand years. And learning the past civilization like the Mesopotamia and the Atlantis, we can understand the origin of our culture and custom more comprehensively. The knowledge about our roots inspires us and also provides the information about where we should go. The history about the Mongolia dinosaur reminds us that mankind may suffer the similar fate in the future, thus urge us to forger our Noah Ark.

In sum, the study of history does not need to relevant to our daily lives, or even does not necessary to be practical. History reminds us and inspires us, and that is its dearest value.
